BI was the most valuable player we had to get AD

BI doesn't space the floor too well though, so that was also an issue. Better overall player than Kuzma, but not sure about fit. Kuzma cuts better and lets see about his shooting this season.

Maybe they can convince Darren Collison to not retire?

Try to get Ty Lawson to accept camp invite and kick the tires? If he can still get to the basket it could work.

A pick should be going the other way. I know Sacramento just signed him to that deal and likely wouldn't want to dump him but it's a bad contract.

He could probably manage that long, but that still leaves 47 minutes and 58 seconds for the other guys to fill.

What's the protection on that pick? 2026 is a long time away and I don't think LA wants to move that far off a pick for VanVleet your talking about giving up a potential high pick for a rental

Any chance Toronto gives Kyle Lowry a buyout later in the year?

FVV can’t fill the role they really need. He’s a 3&D pg who could play great off of Lebron but they desperately need someone to run the offense with Lebron off the floor. FVV cannot reliably run an offense.

Secondary playmaking is the Lakers major Achilles heal. You can’t ask Lebron to do it all at this point of his career. I suspect things get really ugly for the 8 mins a game Lebron needs to rest in the playoffs. Cousins could have mitigated that a little bit but he’s gone now too.

They need to call Collison every day and offer him a min contract plus a $10 mil donation to his church. Or maybe Caruso steps up enough.

The long since passed (or past?) version of Reke would be a perfect fit for what LA needs.

KCP + 2026 unprotected 1st for Kyle Anderson + agreement for Grizz to buy out Iggy.

Anderson can guard 2-4 at an elite level and be backup PG on O, Iggy can do Iggy things

Grizzlies take a flier on an unprotected pick that would convey after AD's next max if he signs it.

Anderson would be a great fit. Still going to need a shooter and for Avery Bradley to be young Avery Bradley or get another guard defender.

Hoping for a Dragic buyout or packaging enough expiring salary to get him in a trade but I doubt Riley wants to do LeBron any favours.

Hm, wonder if the Heat do it if it adds a pick they can send out for a better player...

I think the Lakers go into the season with what they have. I could see bringing Rondo off the bench so they have a play maker on the court when Lebron rests, and starting Avery Bradley as a 3 and D PG.

On the trade front, I can see a Kuzma for one of Cleveland's young PG prospects making a ton of sense. I don't think the CLE backcourt fits long term, and in LA, I don't love the fit of Kuzma with James/Davis. Sure, it could work, but I think that LA is better shifting James between the 3/4 and Davis between the 4/5 depending on matchups. If your doing that, using Kuzma to upgrade elsewhere is a smart decision.

Then there is the buyout market. Names like Goran Dragic, Kyle Lowry and Chris Paul could be available

Call me crazy, but I think Chris Paul agrees to give up the player option on his OKC deal ($44MM) as a buyout and signs with the Lakers with "an understanding" that he will be offered the full non taxpayer MLE for 3 years, recouping $35MM of the $44MM he gave up to force his way to the Lakers. And not for nothing, Lebron James has a production company in LA that can close that gap further.
