Re: Hurricane Dorian
Wouldn't surprise me if this becomes a Cat. 5 before hitting the Bahamas (they're going to get decimated, feel terrible for them).
The projections continue to solidify that this won't make a Florida landfall which is awesome news for the state (and yet people are panic buying still all across Orlando). It's a large storm so we're still going to get feeder bands and at least tropical storm winds for 1-2 days minimum because it'll be a slow mover.

Latest prediction I've seen has a pretty clean miss for Orlando, including no tropical winds even expected at MCO.
Bahamas on the other hand are likely going to get pounded.

Fear is a strong motivator when some so dangerous comes into play. Sure the projections currently indicate that the hurricane will not make landfall in Florida. Since Florida historically gets hit by hurricanes, it's safe to say that people aren't willing to take any chances regardless of how the situation.
Thoughts are prayers to those who will be effected by the storm.

Hopeful it won't come here, but still not counting it out. Also really feel bad for those in the Bahamas. I truly do. Things like this really suck to go through.
So, hopefully it doesn't come here and hopefully this will be the only major storm of the year.

Re: Hurricane Dorian
If I did the math correct which I think it did, an object being a hurricane is this case traveling at 8 MPH, needs 12.5 minutes to reach 1 mile. It doesn't make it to 5 miles in 1 hour and it fails a little short of completing 120 miles in a full day.
In 2 days- A little short of completing 240 miles
In 3 days- A little short of completing 360 miles
That's assuming the hurricane center eye stays at 8 MPH. That's terrible.

The cone moved slightly west today.
Lake Okeechobee was out of the cone yesterday, and now they're back in.

180 mph, wow. 200 mph gusts. Worse, the cone track/path has Orlando back in it. Miami is even in play for more wind.
It's basically going to stall over The Bahamas before making that turn northwest and creep up north slowly. It's like an EF4 tornado that's going to be around for a few days.

Turn back east you dick head of a hurricane. I feel for the Bahamas they always get the brunt of it.

I did my best today to bodysurf at New Smyrna beach, almost every wave was a crashing wave but I managed to ride 5 waves on a very difficult day to ride a wave. There was more people there than I thought there would be. There was a lot of blue skies and sunshine when I was there.

Thoughts for you guys living there.
Never experienced such things here in France, and that's something I'm afraid of if I decide to move to the US , the climatic conditions seems sometimes so crazy...especially in Florida.

I’m in the hospital in Sebastian Florida and they are transferring me to a place in Altamonte Springs because Sebastian is right by the coast

Altamonte is a nice hospital, it's only 15 minutes from Amway arena on a clear traffic day.NickAnderson wrote:I’m in the hospital in Sebastian Florida and they are transferring me to a place in Altamonte Springs because Sebastian is right by the coast
Hopefully they get you ready to go by the start of training camp.

Looks like we're going to dodge another bullet. The forecast track is east of Matthew. I'll take it.
@NickAnderson My wife works at a hospital and Dorian's track kept changing their plans. At first they were going to evacuate Cape Canaveral hospital, then they weren't going to, then when the track jogged west a bit they finally moved everyone!

But yeah, stay safe ya'll. I'm in NY luckily but visiting back to Orlando next month and have a lot of family in Central Fla.
Awesome site, but I have now lost hours of my life researching what some of them were talking about.

Re: Hurricane Dorian
Thanks SOUL for that reference to storm2k. Very good.
I am glad it wasn't too bad here, but it is STILL going and gave North Carolina some trouble. Still heading north to Nova Scotia and someone on that site said they felt 50mi/hr winds in Long Island. Wow, that is more than i felt where i was. Crazy that it is holding on and flirting with category 2 up that far.

The latest low that came off Africa is looking like it could be the next big storm. It will be Hurricane Humberto.

Re: Hurricane Dorian
According to the European model we're going to have another major hurricane going through the Bahamas and headed right for Florida in 10 days.

Re: Hurricane Dorian
I have searched all search engines and can only find Charley as only hurricane with winds over 100mph to ever hit Orlando. Is this true?
If so, Orlando never really got hit by another stronger hurricane.
