Mia/ Bos / Okc Blockbuster!

Post#1 » by scottyg » Sat Sep 7, 2019 2:50 am

Bos trades-
-Gordon Hayward
-2019 first round pick ( lottery protected)

Bos gets -
- Danilo Gallanari
- Kelly Olynyk

Why? They get 2 players that fit the team better and give them more cap room next year and bring back a Fan favorite in KO

Mia Trades
- James Johnson
- Dion Waiters
- Kelly Olynyk

Mia gets -
- Chris Paul
- Mike Muscala

Why? They don’t have to give up any draft picks and get a top 5 PG in the league and he will make this team a contender in the east with Butler

OKC trades
-Danilo Gallanari
- Mike Muscala
- Chris Paul

OKC gets -
- Gordon Hayward
- James Johnson
- Dion Waiters
- 2019 first round pick (Bos) lottery protected

Why? They take a flier on Hayward and hope he returns to form and pick up to good role players and all these guys expire after next year so can be used as trade bait next year and get out of Paul’s contract

Thoughts ? Thought bout sending Nerlins Noel to bos for a young player but otherwise I thought it helped all teams

MIA would ask for draft picks if they take Chris Paul's salary. Signing him effectively takes us out of getting a better player when the other contracts expire in 2021, so the Heat would need compensation.

I also think BOS does too well here. Hayward is not worth his contract, but here Boston dumps Gordon and acquires Gallinari (an expiring contract who was pretty good last season) for one lottery protected pick. That's unlikely.

Anyway, Miami passes. My choice would be to pass even if Miami's two picks were returning, but other Heat fans may disagree.

Miami will not eat CP3 bad contract unless OKC package picks with him.

Way too light for Miami, as mentioned, and like gom I agree. No CP3 in Miami no matter the compensation. We don't need that noise here...

What if Okc changes the protections on the picks they own of Miami’s

What if OKC gives them back to Miami and adds another one?

"Blockbuster"? To me that implies a change that is going to make major changes for all teams involved - or at least two of them.

Miami is trading three good players (that are not team leaders) for two players, one of whom has value that is not even close to his massive salary. They should say no and refuse to answer the phone again. Then again, if they are offered at least one high potential young player plus a couple decent 1st round picks. Not a blockbuster for them, as is. It's not going to make a huge difference in their season IMO.

Oklahoma is gambling on Hayward and he just might be all he once was. So this could be a blockbuster for them.

Boston is trading a very highly paid man that might be the best player in the deal - so if it is a "blockbuster" for them, it'll be in a negative sense. Gallinari & Olynyk would be nice, but they aren't "blockbuster" players.

Regardless of what anyone says, Chris Paul is still a beast and if playing with harden ruined his trade value then whatever team gets him next will b better team

Hayward out, Winslow and Adams in would be ideal for Boston

Yes, but why would OKC and Miami be interested in doing that trade?

I don’t know - but Boston isn’t going to trade Hayward for Olynyk and Gallo, let alone give up a 1st-round pick..

You introduced a trade idea that you aren't ready to discuss.

Why?

I mean, the deal doesn't work for Boston as is. If there's a way to adjust it, Winslow and Adams seem like they'd have more appeal.

The trade has OKC unloading CP3 and Gallo *and* getting a pick - and if Hayward's healthy he's better and younger than Gallinari and he's a potential opt-out in July 2020 himself.

Hayward, Dragic, Olynyk to OKC, CP3 to Miami, Adams and Winslow to Boston

OKC gets long-term salary relief and flexibility - Boston turns an offensive focal point into two younger role players - Miami might need another asset coming back, probably a pick from OKC, since they get the player they want as an upgrade over Dragic, but take on his money and give up Winslow to make it happen.

Gallo was an elite offensive player last year. Hayward injury is potentially career altering making his contract one of the worse ones in the league until he proves otherwise. Gallo will get a pick by himself and he’s worth every bit of it. He doesn’t need to be attached to anything else.

Okc isn’t dumping Adams for anything but positive value. He’s 25 and there is no need to move him.

Keeping Chris Paul isn’t hurting OKC like is being perpetuated.

If people would think about what is best for OKC,they would quit proposing ridiculous offers where OKC is searching for cap relief or using picks to move players.

In the Boston section on RealGM, Hayward might have the value that you are assigning to him. In this section of RealGM, the non Boston participants have been assigning a much lower value to Hayward and the discussion goes off the rails when you keep pushing the idea that Hayward has fairly good value. Gallinari is an expiring contract while Hayward has an option year. The "if healthy" part applies to Gallinari as well, but he is owed less money if something goes wrong.

..........................2019-20........2020-21...
Gordon Hayward.....$32,700,690...$34,187,085.. (PO)
Danilo Gallinari......$22,615,559..................

and he's a potential opt-out in July 2020 himself.

Your trade proposal isn't structured so that Boston will send compensation to OKC in case Hayward fails to opt out next summer.

OKC gets long-term salary relief and flexibility - Boston turns an offensive focal point into two younger role players - Miami might need another asset coming back, probably a pick from OKC, since they get the player they want as an upgrade over Dragic, but take on his money and give up Winslow to make it happen.

OKC gets salary relief on the CP3 part of the trade, but Boston isn't taking back CP3. If Hayward opts in next summer, then OKC would actually be going the wrong way on salary relief on that part of the trade since he makes more than Adams.

..........................2019-20........2020-21...
Gordon Hayward.....$32,700,690...$34,187,085.. (PO)
Steven Adams........$25,842,697...$27,528,088

Hayward, Dragic, Olynyk to OKC, CP3 to Miami, Adams and Winslow to Boston

OKC
In: Hayward, Dragic, Olynyk
Out: CP3, Adams, Gallinari..

Miami
In: CP3
Out: Dragic, Olynyk, Winslow

Boston
In: Adams, Winslow
Out: Hayward

Your trade doesn't have Gallinari going out and OKC might not want both Gallinari and Hayward on the roster.

and give up Winslow to make it happen

Why does Winslow need to be included to make it happen?

OKC
In: Dragic, Olynyk
Out: CP3

Miami
In: CP3
Out: Dragic, Olynyk

..........................2019-20.........2020-21..........2021-22
Chris Paul.............$38,506,482.....$41,358,814....$44,211,146 (PO)

Goran Dragic..........$19,217,900.....................................
Kelly Olynyk............$12,667,886....$13,198,244..................
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
.........................$31,885,786....$13,198,244

$31,885,786 * 1.25 = $39,857,233

$39,857,233 + $100,000 = $39,957,233

It appears to be a CBA compliant trade with over $1.4 million to spare. Miami would have some luxury tax concerns, but they would be smart to find some other way to lower the team salary than just giving Winslow away for no compensation.

It is not necessary to include Boston in a CP3 trade to Miami. If OKC and Boston want to get a Hayward - Adams trade done, then...

..........................2019-20........2020-21...
Gordon Hayward.....$32,700,690...$34,187,085.. (PO)
Steven Adams........$25,842,697...$27,528,088

$25,842,697 * 1.25 = $32,303,371
$32,303,371 + $100,000 = $32,403,371

OKC would be taking back roughly $300,000 more than allowed per the CBA, so they need to send more salary out.

..........................2019-20........2020-21...
Gordon Hayward.....$32,700,690...$34,187,085.. (PO)

Steven Adams........$25,842,697...$27,528,088
Andre Roberson .....$10,740,741..................
---------------------------------------------------------
.........................$36,583,438...$27,528,088

Boston is taking back $3.9 million more than they are sending out, but they are still millions away from the hard cap. If Boston refuses to do the trade because they aren't getting Winslow, I doubt that Presti will lose much sleep over it.

If Paul were the player we wanted, he would already be in Miami, and it wouldn't have cost us Winslow or picks or anything else. CP3 has negative value. We're not giving up Winslow just to make Boston happy. Hayward doesn't have value at this point. if you honestly think you deserve more value for Hayward, go find some other sucker to give it up. Miami's not interested. Absolutely terrible.

On this point you are correct. Winslow doesn't need to be included. However...

It's not a compliant trade. Miami is hard capped due to the Butler sign and trade and cannot go over that thresh hold, not even for a minute. James Johnson's inclusion (rather than Winslow's) makes the deal legal, but even then Miami has no desire to make this deal. We want to be free agent players in two years. As it stands now we can. After this trade? Nope. And what do we get for it? A guy who hasn't played more than 62 games in 3 years, is already 34 years old and declining, and will be due $44 million when he's 37 years old. That's just a hard pass...

I am reasonably certain the Cs will not sell low on Hayward like this. I also don’t see Miami being really interested in Paul.

I wanted to get some sleep and was trying to wrap it up, so I missed the hard cap issue from the Butler trade. Adding Meyers Leonard to the Dragic and Olynyk package would have Miami sending out $43,172,301 in salary versus the incoming $38,506,482 of CP3.

It wasn't my trade idea and I knew that Miami wouldn't do it. I wish that people would think twice before posting "Homer" trade ideas in this forum.
