Unless somebody has a contract specifically stating that they’ll be paid for playing exhibition games, that’s actually incorrect. Contracts start when the actual games start. If you’re trying to out for the team, and you have a non-guaranteed contract, that contract will only going into effect if you make the team and start playing in the real games. Players trying out and playing just exhibition games generally get paid nothing.
Regardless, you’re really jumping down a deep rabbit hole here in order to make some sort of point. And that point isn’t a very good one, which I’m sure you already well aware of.
What do you think my point was? That women are as good at men at sports? Or that Delle Donne could play in the NBA?
Because I think you're missing the point.
It's simply a fact that a woman played in an NHL exhibition game.
You initially made this point, and then when multiple people pointed out to you that it was a publicity stunt and that exhibition games don't really count you went overboard trying to claim these games were far more important than they actually are.
Anyways, here's what Tampa Bay GM Phil Esposito was quoted as saying about bringing in Rheaume for a tryout:
I said, 'Guys, we're an expansion team. We're not going to win (anything) anyways. We need the publicity.' First Step wrote:And you're wrong about players not getting paid for preseason. Absolutely wrong. They sell tickets to pre-season games, meaning players get paid under labor laws. It would be illegal for them not to pay her. Non-guaranteed contracts only mean they aren't guaranteed the full contract value. If they play a game, show up to practices they get a portion of their salary because I don't know, it's their job.
You're clearly just guessing.
NFL, NHL and NBA players receive their salary for each week of the regular season only. Their salary does not get paid during the playoffs and they only receive a per diem in the pre-season, not an actual salary or game-check. The per diem is something to cover room and board for each day they're in training camp but they don't receive and actual check for playing in an exhibition game which is the initial claim that you were making. This includes those players with guaranteed contracts, non-guaranteed contracts and no contract at all.
