Still here. Are you that confident that the Yankees are going to beat the Astros?

Should we have spent money on pitching? Absolutely, there's no debating that now.

Oh Hal is still cheap. I'm willing to bet no one in the front office expected DJ or Urshela's seasons or the production from the guys on the bench. And this team still faces a tough series with the Astros should they meet.

I would have shelled out that money to get us closer to the chip though. If our goal was the division, I agree with you---no need to pay too much. But the Astros are monsters, and we're going to be seeing them for a long time. I also seriously wonder if we'd pay for Gerrit Cole this offseason.

Thinking a bit ahead, do you want Gerrit Cole on this team? What are the odds Hal opens up his wallet for him? Keep in mind, this guy just struck out 300 in under 200 innings this season. I have near zero confidence that Gerrit Cole is a Yankee next season. DJ and Urshela thankfully having great seasons while Harper and Machado did not doesn't mean Hal isn't cheap.

I thought about them keeping the payroll flexible for when it's time to pay Gleyber, Judge, Gary.
Red Sox will have to give up either Mookie or their praying JD opts out in the winter just so they can shed salary.
On Gerrit, he'll become a Yankee if he wants to be a Yankee. I'm sure the offer will be competitive and similar to other team's offers, as we all know the money isn't the problem, it comes down to how many years.

I bet Cashman did. He's a genius.

I'm a Cashman fan, but he's not a superhuman clairvoyant. He like every GM has made mistakes during his LONG tenure with the Yankees. Off the top of my head, Kei Igawa comes to my head. And Pavano. And utilizing Joba and Hughes and when and when not to trade them.

Not always. Shane Robinson. And that short Ike Davis experiment. And Stephen Drew. And Todd Frazier's playoffs.

Pitching, not so much.
