Jimmy Butler: 'I'm A Little Extra At Times'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Sep 28, 2019 5:54 pm

Jimmy Butler discussed his personality during an introductory press conference for the Miami Heat, acknowledging that he can get carried away by his passion for the game.

"I don't think I'm that bad of a guy. I'm not an a--hole like everybody thinks that I am. I'm a little extra at times. I don't think there's not too much wrong with that, either. If you do what I do every day, and other people don't go about it that way, I think you might have a problem with it, too. I love my job. I love the game. I love to work. I'm at it every single day at hours and times when people don't want to do it. I think, why doesn't everybody do what I do? To this day, I don't understand it. I really don't. Will I ever understand it? Probably not. Will I overreact? Probably so," said Butler.

Butler added that he sees his mentality in rookie Tyler Herro.

Pat Riley said that Butler's competitive personality fits with the Heat culture.

"We're going to find out throughout the course of the season how he meshes in with our team... We will see what his impact on winning is and that's what I'm encouraged about. I definitely embrace all of the qualities that he has."

This is either pre-schooler stuff or very advanced poetry. Can't really tell.

I understand that,
100% when you work the hardest in your team and have to carry their asses every night,
It’s hard not to get a little annoyed....
After your first, you change, you mature, you dont just jump into things.

After getting dunked on for the first time, life becomes complex.

This would be a great point if Butler actually did 'carry his team's asses,' if he was an especially smart or savvy player, if he didn't routinely take off portions of games, if he wasn't prone to having off quarters, etc. I think Butler has a good motor and work ethic, but it's not like his teammates are all slacking off or not putting in work. He's just a random, kind of contrarian dude who seems to enjoy getting exasperated with things instead of just leading and working with what he has. Like he said, he's extra.

Yeah but that’s human,
We don’t see what’s going on off the court.

But I have to agree with you he is extra,
But personally I beleive he carried the Twolves quite often...

He just keeps patting himself on the shoulder. He isn't even a top10 player, so I don't really understand all his passive aggressive crap. You wouldn't go to Miami if you wanted to be a contender. You went for the money and to be the man, nothing wrong with that, enjoy.

Ahhh Jimmy. More trouble than he is worth.

The "It's because I am so competitive" line so many times before it becomes irrelevant. An **** is an **** not matter who you are. He didn't even get along with Brett Brown who is one of easier people in the world to get along with.
