I imagine they have a plan for him. I guess it comes down to whether they think he'll play at all this season, in which case they could get a medical exemption, short of that, they can buy him out. But Val's not going to take a discount, so then what happens because I think the Bulls are up against the cap?

Picking option on Valentine will kill us capspace wise. What a waste of money.

What happened to Valentine? I thought the original estimate was 4-6 months. Then it became a full season. And now possibly even longer?

Well this clears up how Dunn will get minutes and how minutes between val/hutch will be balanced...

From before:
PaKii94 wrote:Competitive NBA teams usually play 7-8 members when everyone is healthy with the rest getting spot minutes/injury minutes. Here is what we know:

- Sato wants to play primarily PG (Can play other spots but it was an irk in washington for him)
- Young (like OPJ) in my mind is a big wing so he can play both 3/4. When OPJ and him are on the floor they are interchangeable
- We want at least 4 shooters on the floor at all times
- If Dunn is here, he will probably get burn more than Archi/Shaq. While Archi/Shaq are nice, they are still 3rd string level players. Hopefully Dunn buys into a bench role... he could be effective in it.
- I expect good things from Hutch & decent things from Val (if he's healthy) but they are extra players. We don't theoretically need them to provide more than 10 mins (barring injury).

This is the breakdown I envision:

Starters: Sato [30] - Lavine [34] - OPJ [34] - Lauri [28] - WCJ[34]

Backup: Dunn[14] - White[14] - Young[10] - Young[20] - Lauri[6]

Spot Minutes: Val or Hutch [8] | Gafford or Kornet [8]

Bench Warmers: Archi - Shaq - Mokoka - felicio

Totals:
Lavine/OPJ/Lauri/WCJ - 34
Sato/Young - 30
Dunn/White - 14
Val/Hutch/Gafford/Kornet - 8

This kind of distribution gives some flexibility:
- If white is looking good, Sato/Dunn's minutes can be cut.
- If White is playing poorly or Dunn is causing trouble, Val/Hutch can eat some of those minutes.
- Hutch can also encroach on OPJ & Young.
- If Gafford/Kornet are viable, they can eat Lauri's minutes and encroach on Young.

For a minimum playoff rotation of 7 players, We already have Lavine/OPJ/Lauri/WCJ/Sato/Young. We just need one of the rest of the guards to step up and we will be golden.

Now:

Starters: Sato [25] - Lavine [34] - OPJ [30] - Lauri [28] - WCJ[34]

Backup: Dunn[15] - White[20] - Young[10] - Young[20] - Lauri[6]

Spot Minutes: Hutch [10] | Gafford or Kornet [8]

Bench Warmers: Archi - Shaq - Valentine - Mokoka - felicio

Totals:
Lavine/Lauri/WCJ - 34
OPJ/Young - 30
Sato - 25
White - 20
Dunn - 15
Hutch - 10
Gafford or Kornet - 8

Doesn't look good for Valentine. He was originally expected to have a normal off-season, and now, more than 10 months after the surgery, he is still not cleared for full basketball activity. Four to six months recovery time has turned into "unclear".
From the basketball's perspective, travel is a nice pause from being pounded to the floor.

He needs to get waived asap.
At this point, one third of the roster are deadweight as expected. Want them all gone and
bring in Melo, Noah, Shumpert, Deng, Simmons who can give you solid 10 minute.
Lamelo will be a future superstar Bull. Book it. Lavar for president!

10 minutes combined, maybe. Those guys are done except maybe Shumpert who thinks he's a 10 million a year player but could be useful on a minimum deal.

Feel bad for him but Bulls need to cut bait.

Any update on Hutchinson?

Unless I am missing something, but I heard Pax said Hutchison will be brought along slowly and Kornet is battling turf toe. He also said that Carter and Valentine are ready to go.
