Not too surprised, he was in and out of shape with his time on the Raptors as well. Seems to be his weakness and why his career is mediocre, just didnt have the drive despite his talents.

Admonish is probably the term the author should have used.

Banished is fine. He still gets paid as long as he shows up. Just can't participate in team workouts until he loses weight or has better conditioning and stamina. It would be a different story if he doesn't get into shape and is still banished from team workouts when the league starts.

The irony of Miami's stringent conditioning requirements is that they seem to be one of the most catastrophically injury prone teams over the past decade.

According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, a former Brooklyn Nets executive, "Johnson has a $242K likely bonus in his contract for body fat % and weight requirement. Johnson has met the bonus in the previous two seasons."

Hello, right hand? Yeah, this is left hand. I’m sorry you have no idea what I’m doing.

If it comes around that the Heat have withheld this bonus for stating he has supposedly not met "their conditioning requirements" - one day after the head coach publicly said he did a great job on condition day - that will be a relatively easy grievance for the NBAPA to file and win I would think.

Side note, no one should try to anger James Johnson

The guy is 33 and on his last big contract (probably his last contract period). I doubt he cares. He probably even welcomes this "banishment" which allows him to sit home and get paid.

Right. Not a full-blown excommunication.

Hey, maybe that’s the punishment for the new tampering rules?

Nobody's saying it's not a modern English word, it's just a silly word to use in that situation. Usually the word banished is only used in fantasy RPG video games or in regards to deportation, implying a permanent ban. If the guy gets healthy, he has a chance to return, not like he's gone forever and has no chance of ever playing NBA basketball again or isn't allowed to come to the building.

This is the first thing I thought of when I saw the word.
SELL THE TEAM, JIM!!! :curse:
