Most accurate post yet.
The devolution hasn't started yet. But we'll know when it has.

GONYK wrote:Chanel Bomber wrote:KP has always been more of an athlete than a basketball player to me. He's an incredible athlete, but with poor instincts and a very limited feel for the game offensively. And while there's no denying that he could be a winning player with his skillset, I think he's more suited to be a third option (maybe second down the line) on a contender. He's an inefficient scorer and a poor and unwilling passer. That's not a franchise player. His skillset is actually that of an elite role player, unless he improves dramatically in Dallas.
Things he's been good at:
- 3-point shooting (invaluable at his position)
- FT shooting
- Rim protection (the quality that matters most when it comes to bigs, and he's elite)
- Running in transition
Things he's been bad at (or below-average):
- Scoring efficiency
- Shot selection
- Finishing at the rim
- Passing (unselfishness, vision and accuracy)
- Overall basketball IQ on offense
- Rebounding
- Switching onto guards
- Durability (until he proves otherwise)
Playing next to Luka is the perfect situation for him, but we'll see if he's willing to give up his terrible midrange ISO jumpers and become a second banana. Because that's what it's gonna take for the Mavs to reach their potential. And he will need to play center, which should help his scoring efficiency.
I wish him well, as long as we get a lottery pick in 2021 and DSJ pans out.
This where KP stopped reading![]()
(I agree with your analysis overall)

The Luke / KP PnR should have happened in orange and blue. We had a stud to build around and we blew it.
Best of luck to him. I don't need to tear him down to build up the kids we have on our roster.
I predicted KP would wind up next to Luka but on another team, because that's the single most disappointing thing I could think of happening. So, of course, it happened.![]()
Best to KP etc, but I'm just not up for having it in my face all year when attempting to enjoy what I think will be a decent team, not great, but I see the franchise headed in the right direction.
Also, won't do it here, but it got tiring discussing the 5 sides of the loose parameters of the KP situation, over did they just trade him, did he force his way out, was it a good deal, bad deal, decent deal all things considered, ok deal but reasonable hedge once thing where where they were at etc.
I mean, it's not like I wouldn't even, personally, go over some of that again, but I know what it's like on here. I'd rather not do it EVERY game thread. Or every day where KP or Randle outscore each other, or how the Mavs are doing in the standings vs the Knicks and so on.
It's painful enough. Knicks should have tanked for Donic. They didn't. They made a decision on KP, or he forced a decision that they then reacted to. All things considered, the Knicks were left in pretty good shape considering they lost MAYBE a franchise player. Or maybe he isn't. And that's also part of the debate, also given tons of keystrokes.
I mean, the Gallo/Chandler vs Melo thing went on for YEARS. I mean, the last vestiges of the argument still come up at times. Or Melo bashing going on for years.
Just trying to keep more of it here. For multiple reasons.

Who flocked there this off-season with all their cap space?

They want to see KP healthy first. But, even though you may not agree with my conclusion, you don't deny the other points I made, do you?

You said they wanted to play for Doncic, you didn't mention KP. What big FA's have gone to Dallas?
I have no idea if they will be great together because it's been shown that KP cannot stay healthy. And while I think Doncic is great, people are crowning him way too early. I also have no idea if players love Cuban.

They didn't have that much cap space this year. They're still paying Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway about $30m.

Pretty sure they had around 30m. Maybe not enough for a max, but that's a decent amount of space.

Not to bring race into this but 2 white euro players arent really going to really attract other stars in this league
How much success did Mavs have in free agency when Dirk was there?
Cuban may not be the most popular personality across the country, but one thing is for sure—his players love him.
Dallas is known league-wide as a great place to play, and a huge part of that of that attractiveness is Cuban.
He provides his players with one of the best locker rooms in the NBA, treats his team like family and does whatever it takes to accommodate them.
This was never more evident than in his interaction with troubled guard Delonte West.
When West signed with the team, he was near penniless. To compensate for that, he was forced to sleep in the Mavs' locker room and even his car early on in the season.
But when Mark Cuban got wind of this, he immediately put a stop to it.
“Soon as Mr. Cuban heard about that, he made one phone call and everybody was lining up to rent me an apartment,” West told the Dallas Morning News. “They were calling back saying, ‘Hey, we’ve got the penthouse suite for you.'"
However, perhaps the best indication of the players' loyalty to their owner came in the celebration after the Mavericks won the title.
Cuban was right there along with his team, and his players embraced and reveled in the jubilation with him like a brother.
There is no better statement of admiration and love than that.

Well, all I can see is that from 2000-14, the Mavs were one of the most successful franchises in the NBA. Yeah, they''ve had some trouble rebuilding the last 4 years years. Not a bad track record. If it's true that black players don't want to play in Dallas, I haven't read or heard about that. I just read that "players" love playing for him, as an owner.
It looks like there are some happy black players in this video.![]()
