of course but here in the consequences here is what's currently happening to the NBA. Huge financial loses.

**** outta here with that freedom garbage.

oh, but it's all good, the NBA is definitely 'woke' because they FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT to allow men to walk into womens bathrooms in Charlotte, SO PROGRESSIVE.

The ridiculous thing about that is the fact that the city of Charlotte passed an anti-discrimination law that protected LGBTQ people. It was the state legislature that threw a fit over it. So the NBA in all its grand wisdom punished the city of Charlotte for something it had nothing to do with.

Yes. Let's not focus on fixing anything unless we fix the most important thing. That has no flaws at all.

you mean when the NBA flexed nuts on the Charlotte trans bathroom issue to pretend it's 'woke' while simultaneously trying to expand in places where they are committing literal genocide and ethnic cleansing?

yea forgive me if I don't take that seriously, pretending that letting grown men into womens bathroom is 'fixing human rights'. laughable across the board.

There are lives at risk across the board.

Trans lives at risk.
On Hong Kong there are lives at risk.

Who are you to say which lives should be ignored?

In other words, you could care less about anyone else if they're not working on issues you care about. Got it.

Let's be clear about what happened.

Morey, a US citizen working for a US company, on his private Twitter account, a site which is banned in China, retweeted "Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong", then deleted it 5 minutes later.

The Chinese government shutdown a $4,000,000,000 Chinese subsidy of the US business Morey works for in response.

Like I said a not so thinly veiled attempt at defending western imperialism.

China is literally building man made islands to claim other countries' territorial waters and one since deleted tweet by a private citizen makes America the Imperialist, lol, okay.

The point was to point out the size of the "offense" and response. It's not like Morey tweeted that the People's Republic of China has killed tens of millions Chinese citizens since it's founding in 1949, even though he could because it's true.

Then continue on you'll get no defense from me. This is one of those issues where no side looks good. Prior to your edit I was about to go in though because you might need to learn the history of Hong Kong if you want to know why a defense of Hong Kong is a defense of imperialism.

Also I'm not defending China they're reaching into Africa now as we speak to do the same thing European powers have been doing for hundreds of years.

That horse left the barn decades ago. Now that every idiot with just a shred of fame and a twitter/insta account essentially has a loud microphone, and some of them are going to use it.

But you can defend the citizens of HK without defending the political and historical existence of HK. Regardless of how it came into being, you have people whose lives are at risk.

to compare that issue to the outright genocide in Xinjiang is both laughable and disgusting at the same time

almost as comical as the NBA pandering to this nonsense while simultaneously getting in bed with China and UAE and Israel and numerous other historically genocidal regimes on the planet.

As an NBA fan this really is trash. The NBA is my passion. I literally spend more than 10,000 dollars a year on NBA related items whether it be lower bowl tickets, concessions, jerseys, memorabilia and the most expensive aspect is travel to games that includes plane tickets, car rentals, hotels and food. For example I don't live in Philly, but I'm planning on going to the Boston-Philly opener in a few weeks just because I'm a huge basketball fan.

The point of this is for the first time in my life I'm rethinking how I should spend my money. Maybe I will sit a year out. This is crap. If you can't stand up against an authoritarian regime that is putting its Muslim population in concentration camps, brutalizing protesters in Hong Kong and just has a horrible repressive political prison system (Look up the Laogai Prison system) then why should we take you seriously on anything?

Extremely pathetic and cowardly move by Silver and the NBA. It just goes to show you at the end of the day corporations no matter how much they pretend to be progressive are only in it for the bottom line.

To do so would be to separate the citizens of HK from citizens of China, the country they're citizens of. At that point you're defending the political and historical existence of HK as an entity separate from China.

If you are naive enough to believe the bathroom issue isn't a deeper cause rooted in discrimination, abuse and high suicide rates than I'm not sure what to say.

Lol, no side looks good. The side of free speech doesn't look good, got it.

Defending the right of the citizens of Hong Kong to self-determination is not a defense of imperialism. It has nothing to do with imperialism. The current Chinese government exists because it violently overthrew the KMT, you might as well argue the PRC is illegitimate because of that so they have no right to Hong Kong in the first place. But none of that has anything to do with what's going on in Hong Kong today.

The irony is, you could argue the PRC wouldn't exist without Imperialism. The USSR helped PRC after WWII, and the US shielded the PRC during the war, otherwise they might not have even been capable of violently overthrowing the existing Chinese government. Not to mention the Japanese invasion weakening the government in the first place.

I was really hoping that South Park would get wind of this. I'd love to see the next episode continue the China stuff and add the new NBA issues.
