Last call, does anybody still think Zion will underwhelm in his rookie season ?

Post#1 » by LastNameEver » Thu Oct 10, 2019 12:56 pm

Alright, so this kid is displaying Kyrie body control in a 300 lbs body with prime Blake Griffin athleticism.
His vision is better than a lot of guards and he can get to the rim at will because he's stronger than everybody with above average ball security (this surprised me)..

Only suspect thing is his perimeter shooting but we knew that ahead of time.

What are some other critiques that you guys see that could potentially hinder him going forward ? :o

Yeah... his body. He is an injury waiting to happen and I can't see him going 82 games.

I'm just worried about his health long-term. It just doesn't seem possible that somebody that big and strong could be that quick and that athletic--like, it's a violation of natural law or something.

Otherwise...wow. The guy is going to be Barkley on steroids....

Still early but most of his points have been uncontested especially that bulls game. I think he can do well in regular season but eventually will need to polish his game for the playoffs.

I will say his strength is off the charts he just bodies people when he drives and he is making nba players look like children

Agreed.

He plays a very vertical game and with his weight I doubt his feet/legs/knees will be able to handle the stress for too long.

Hope I’m wrong.

Yes.

He's a health risk and whilst he may put up some decent raw numbers, he won't have the impact people are predicting. The biggest concern is how much stress he's putting those joints through, though.

Do you think load management is a viable option for a 19 year old rookie ? I don't think its been before besides Embiid, but he was technically not a rookie.

Not really. He was bullying Lauri Markannen and forcing him into bad shots.

Yup.. he athleticism will be his undoing and he doesn't look like the sort of guy that is going to lose weight.

He also can't score outside of 2 feet. I wonder if he will cop the same crap Simmons does for not being able to shoot. Somehow I doubt it.

i expect 18, 7 ,4, top twenty in steals and blocks, lots of getting lost on defense, and many lackluster games against smart defenses. I think thats fair. I think he will reach that. So I think he will Whelm, not overwhelm, not underwhelm

Zion is gonna shoot some threes and will probably make 28-30 % of them. His shooting predicament is not like Simmons.

He will not live up to the hype.

I think it’s possible, he could just end up a glorified Jerami Grant

But most likely he beasts it

I mean, Zion is being compared to Lebron... who is in the MJ conversation for GOAT. How could he possibly live up to THAT kind of hype?

That said, Lebron was extremely inefficient in his rookie year..... a ORTG of 99 and a TS% of .488, which we now know to be really bad. Zion will probably exceed that.

I'm curious after preseason is over and there's significant NBA tape on him, what happens.

A bunch of people have bought on his pumpfake or have played him too tight. What happens when he has to take that line drive 3 a bunch?

outside of that, he's good enough off the ball and at finishing that he'll still have a good year.

totally depends on what expectations you have for him. if you talking about the hype comin in then yeah he will underwhelm. if you talking my personel expectations then no because i dont see him as an new Lebron

This conversation is not for people who are buying into LeBron hype, that debate is for people commenting under ESPN clips.

I beleieve Zion will have a rookie season equivalent to Luka's in both performance and impact, but that will perturb some people.
