i think "average defender" is probably still a lofty goal for lavine but i'm definitely optimistic he can at least become "adequate for your best perimeter offensive player"

i kinda imagine the instincts are always gonna be iffy, but if he can semi-consistently give a **** + lock in during crunch-time possessions, i think that's a pretty good target for him on that end of the ball

Great news that he is taking this criticism personally, and is out there stating that he intends to be better. It's been showing in the preseason games so far. On ball he is fine. It's off ball that needs the work, and he knows it, and has been better already.

I give him credit for professional pride. He does get a lot of media criticism.

I also give Kingpin credit. I hear quotes that he challenged Zach to improve there this offseason.

lol, for real, I like that competitive mindset. Don't want us to chirp, buff up on that D and throw it back in everybody's face. I'm looking for him to maintain this in the regular season.

I would if it was above and beyond regular stuff but it's usually a regurgitation of regular news with maybe a quote or two extra

I think his bad defense is way overblown. He may not be a defensive stopper but I really think he will be an atleast average defender this year.

I also have a feeling that he will lead this team to playoffs this year and be a great leader. He will make his mark this year in the NBA. NBA will look stupid to not have more Bulls games on National TV this year.
