Zion Williamson Out Several Weeks With Right Knee Injury

Zion Williamson is expected to miss a "period of weeks to start (the) regular season", sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Williamson is battling a right knee injury.

A severe injury has been ruled out for Williamson at this time.

The New Orleans Pelicans are treating the injury with an abundance of caution.

I think he'd be wise to drop some weight. He'd still be a monster at 250lbs and he should be able to play for much longer. 280lbs for a guy playing on the perimeter is just too much weight.

Wish Zion a healthy recovery - even if he needs to sit out an extended part of the season to get his body right (i.e. drop 20 - 30 lbs). He is a truly exceptionally talented player, but needs to get fit ( i.e. get body weight down to minimize wear and tear on his knees and frame ).

Coach K called Zion out for his fitness level ( dunking / explosiveness does NOT equal fitness ) early this summer. Seems that the Pelicans did not head his words. They should have kept him in a strict regimen program to get his body right, even if it means having him play in January.

Maybe in the aggregate that ends up being true, but this isn't evidence of it. He's barely played in the last 6 months and he's been pretty healthy at Duke and high school with the same body. Really the only injury he had was when he shoe blew out so it's hard to even really blame it on anything but freak stuff and bad luck at this point.

He's got a bigger frame than Lebron and he needs muscle to carry that frame. I don't see a way he could drop significant weight without shedding muscle. Bottom line... I don't think he's as fat as he looks.

Over cautious is not always the right approach with rookies. The Blake griffin or t-mac syndrome can be avoided if rookies are not treated like divas or royalties. Having said that, Dont know much about the extent of his injury but hope he gets better. Helluva player.

I was about to say that. Take the whole damn year if you have too. He is too much an injury risk at this current weight. He's already had 3 knee issues/injuries in the last 8 months. At 18 or 19 you should not be dealing with this much knee issues. His knees are obviously taking a punishment from a combination of his weight AND playing style. He can probably maintain the playing style if he's around 250lbs, which is still heavy for his size, but it'd obviously be mostly muscle at that point. I really like what I have seen from this kid, and hope he doesn't become an Oden.
