I'm afraid Trez can't be extended even if he wants to, as his contract is shorter than 3 years and the CBA doesn't allow it. It'll have to go to next July.

I have been pessimistic about keeping Harrell beyond this year, but am starting to really think otherwise. I think it's very possible we do another 2-year deal with a significant raise, say 2-year $28M- can our payroll accommodate that?
As great as he is at what he does, no one is offering Harrell a max contract next offseason. His overall skill set is still too limited and he is significantly undersized. There's no way a team can aspire to playoff success if he's your #2 paid guy.
Also, he has a psychic connection with Lou Williams and his stats reflect that, staying here will increase his future value. He is a hard worker and will continue to improve his game, which is why I think another 2-year deal might work out for both parties. Keep improving, and he might get a near-max level deal in a couple of years...but not before then.
