Annual Embiid Impact Thread

Post#1 » by GeorgeMarcus » Thu Nov 7, 2019 12:26 am

I promised I would, and I'm a man of my word. In honor of Embiid's return from suspension...

15-16 (pre-Embiid)
Sixers: 10-72 (12.20%)

16-17 (minute restricted Embiid)
Sixers w/ Embiid: 13-18 (41.94%)
Sixers w/o Embiid: 15-36 (29.41%)
Net Winning%: +12.53
On/Off: +11.1

17-18
Sixers w/ Embiid: 41-22 (65.08%)
Sixers w/o Embiid: 11-8 (57.89%)
Net Winning%: +7.19
On/Off: +12.7
Playoff On/Off: +6.3

18-19
Sixers w/ Embiid: 43-21 (67.19%)
Sixers w/o Embiid: 8-10 (44.44%)
Net Winning%: +22.75
On/Off: +10.0
Playoff On/Off: +41.3

19-20
Sixers w/ Embiid: 3-0 (100.00%)
Sixers w/o Embiid: 2-1 (66.67%)
Net Winning%: +33.33
On/Off: +16.1

Total
Sixers w/ Embiid: 100-61 (62.11%)
Sixers w/o Embiid: 36-55 (39.56%)
Net Winning%: +22.55
On/Off: +11.3
Playoff On/Off: +25.4

I'll add that in every dataset, SOS with Embiid was greater than it was without him. That makes the results even more impressive. All hail the best/most impactful C in the league :king:

You and me both brother. If he can stay on the court for 70+ games then he'll be in the conversation. The suspension didn't help :sigh:

Modern day Shaq but with a better shot. Both on and off the court.

Just imagine what his numbers would be if Simmons could shoot. :onfire:

If he doesn’t improve at all, and simply puts up the exact same stats as last year in 70 games, and the Sixers win 60+ games and get the number 1 seed, then he is going to be a finalist for sure.

Not even close to being Shaq. He is a great player though and definitely an MVP level talent

When people say that he is like Shaq it makes me think that they don’t remember Shaq very well.

Shaq was physically overwhelming from the beginning, and during the years when the Lakers won 3 in a row, there was basically nothing that you could do with him.

If Shaq ever tried to get in shape, and play hard all the time then he would have won twice as many titles.

Embiid is a much better defender, and way more skilled overall, but he isn’t close to Shaq physically or in overall dominance.

He’s literally one of the most impactful players in NBA history at any position. How many players whom we have data for can boast this much impact in their first four+ years?

Think there is a subset of fans that lump Laker and Magic Shaq as the same type of players. Magic Shaq was a stronger and more athletic Prime Dwight with offensive skills. Laker Shaq was getting by on brute force and touch.

It's a shame he's paired with Simmons to be honest, I don't think we'll ever get to see a prime Embiid with a team built to maximize his talent, and it's really because of Simmons at this point. You remove Ben from that lineup and place any number of all-star PGs in his place and the roster is immediately balanced. It's his 4th playing year in the NBA and one faucet of his game is still left under wraps because you can't run a pick and roll with Simmons as the primary ball handler, just imagine Lillard curling around Embiid's picks.

*Points out Embiid's extremely weak durability

*Proceeds to call him the best C in the league

lol

When are people going to realize that durability is a major part of 'goodness'? Availability is why Jokic was #1 in 2019 and tbh it's probably why he'll end up #1 this season (yeah, I know he's off to a slow start). Nobody should trust Joel's ability to stay healthy.

I don't know how long his prime will be, but he is an incredible player. Also crazy fun to watch, I have a newfound appreciation for watching guys who genuinely enjoy playing.

I understand what Simmons can be, but damn i could only imagine Embiid with a PG like Lillard/Kemba/Kyrie/etc.

It also mean he gets to play defense with a guy like Simmons who makes him a more impactful defender as he doesn't have to constantly worry about blown coverage. And lets be honest 70% of basketball is defense for big men!

Embiid was an excellent defender his rookie season without Simmons, and almost all of the best defensive teams are anchored by great defensive bigs, he doesn't need Simmons on that side of the ball.

The Sixers are going to be playing 4 vs 5 offensively until Simmons expands his game, and in no way does his defense makeup for his offensive shortcomings, not when he's going to be a max player.

I'd say Gobert is outplaying him tonight

I wouldn't say that...

Embiid: 27pts (on 56.44 TS%), 16 rbs and 3 asts
Gobert: 14 pts (on 60.76 TS%), 16 rbs and 3 asts

Even in a loss Embiid was +7 on the court. More of the same from the big man.

Yea, the version of Shaq that shoots 48% instead of 60%.

My point was best/most impactful C when healthy. He's been pretty healthy over the last couple seasons though minus the freak orbital fracture and spouts of conditioning-related load mgmt. His conditioning is much better now so that shouldn't be an issue.
