Re: Official trade Julius Randle thread
Unless we attach picks, there will be no taker. Randle cannot shoot, cannot defend. Other than MIA and POR every team in the league have proven players or future investments in 4 position. With his salary and deficiencies, he cannot be a rotational piece in playoff teams and it is unlikely to see any lottery team take a chance on him.
Portland would look for better shooters (Gallinari?) or better defenders (AG?) or both (our Morris) among available 4s if they spare a pick or young player. Maybe a Randle+Taj for Hassan + SRP but I'm not sure our front office will admit their buyers remorse that early. It would open more time for Mitch, Portis and Knox, probably Whiteside would be waived or let him expire and give minutes behind Mitch.
Memphis may be willing to take a chance on Randle if they cannot find a taker for Iggy (but I'm not sure Iggy would accept to come and play for us). Even that one may cost a 2nd. (Though I'd really love to see Iggy come and mentor Frank and RJ, even Knox). Still with JJJ, Crowder and Clarke, i dont see them pulling the trigger.
Miami can use Randle and hide him on their D with their coaching and strong team D, but do they have any piece to return? I wouldn't part with a rotational piece for Randle and they won't spend a future pick on him. Maybe something around Dion's ugly and useless contract and a future pick?
Though I dont like him (and his contract) he is not as bad as we use him. His passing is good for his position. Most of his turnovers are from his usage and his handles. In the flow of the game, he is able to read and connect cutters (we dont have many, thanks to Fiz's offense). If Fiz stops using him as primary ball handler (or secondary) and if he can get the ball closer to basket (instead of forcing 1-3 isos, posting up 1-1), maybe his value will increase in time (strongly doubt that).

I like that deal as well. You probably can get another small asset with Batum for Randle + small filler
Even declining Batum would be a better fit. Seems fair as hornets save some money.
Hornets seem to make a lot of questionable decisions. I would maybe try to target a team like that. Showcase game???.

Re: Official trade Julius Randle thread
I’m all for just letting him finish his 2 guaranteed years, but his role should be greatly reduced. Limit him to transition plays, pick and rolls and cuts. Simplify the game for him. He should never be a point forward. Or spot up 3 point shooter. Or post up player.
He can excel at those things and be a plus for us.

Didn't like the signing, but I didn't think he'd be this bad of a signing.

Maybe a tanking team would want him?
Are you fans of the team or the player?

Re: Official trade Julius Randle thread
Man... Randle has been dreadful. The team would have been better off without for the next 2 years. And he doesn't fit with the direction of the team.
Imagine if Morris's deal with the Spurs fell off sooner and the Knicks went with him instead of Randle. We maybe could have gotten Morris for a 2 year deal. He has good character and seems like a team guy. I feel he can be a good influence on your young guys, and I feel he already has on Frank.
Randle on the other hand... If he's not scoring efficiently, he's useless. This is a bad habit you don't want to pass on to your young guys. I'm not saying it will happen. But you never know. Nevertheless, it's annoying to watch.
Our rotations would make more sense without him as well. I wish we didn't sign Payton as well. I can't talk because I didn't have faith in Frank and DSjr either; but our FO and coach had more time with them. They should have saw the potential.
I would have been happy with out offseason if we just didn't sign Randle and Payton. We could have had two development years. With Morris as our veteran leader. Get and use our picks for more young guys. But now we are playing Randle because of contract privilege. And probably Payton as well when he returns.
Frank/DSjr
Dotson/Trier/DSjr
RJ/Knox
Morris/Portis
Mitch/Taj

Over reaction thread, watch him become instantly better if we trade him to a team with a better coach and structure ala Zach Randolph many years ago.

It took Zbo a pitstop at LA before he found his niche with the Grizzlies.
Anyways, maybe there is a team out there that just needs a 20 and 10 numbers guy. Points and rebounds only. But its not the Knicks

Randle would fit well with Utah, something like Randle for Exum, Bradley and Ed Davis and a pick would work well.

Randolph was always much more talented though. It's still very true however.

None of these guys are bad players.
The sum is definitely less than the parts, though.
