The 2019-20 Giannis Antetokounmpo Thread

Discuss here. After falling short in the playoffs last year and an underwhelming FIBA result, I expect him to be more motivated than ever.

He has to show us he's expanded his game and won't be walled to death in the playoffs this year. We already know he's unstoppable in the RS. It's going to be tough against the Sixers with two of the smartest defenders in Embiid and Horford.

His three is coming along nicely, but he still needs some more tricks in the half court set for when he eventually goes deep in the playoffs again.

All he needs is Bledsoe to not **** his pants in the playoffs

I don't think he'll get his three point shot this season. The things I'm looking for are the turnaround jumper near the post that he's pulled out a few times in preseason and improved FT shooting. Anything to get buckets a little more easily.

In his two preseason games, he looked like he was from another planet compared to everyone else. I think he’s the favorite to win MVP again.

I'm exhausted listening to fans and media talking about Giannis developing a +35% 3pt shot.

All he needs is a mid range jumper (that he can shoot from the key, before bumping into the "wall" that teams are forming) and a simple off the glass hook shot/jumper operating in a post up (when guarded by a smaller defender).

He just needs a "go to" move when opposing teams are defending efficiently and intelligently.
That move doesn't have to be a 3.Just expand your effectiveness outside the paint/add a post up move and the " free throw wall" defense becomes obsolete.

He doesn’t need anything really, Bucks win the championship last season if he was a better FT shooter in the playoffs. That should be his goal this season, get his playoff FT% to be the same or better than his regular season FT%.

Giannis needing to expand his offensive game is overstated. If the only way to “stop” you is to put you on the FT line, then get better at FT’s

Reminder that a 39 year old PG locked him down in the World Cup.

Did Giannis shoot FTs decently in the preseason? He was terrible in the playoffs and hasn't looked good there tonight.

His jumper does look improved though. Less of a hitch than before, just drained a three as I was typing this.

And it's just the beginning for him!...I think he has learned a lot from his first deep playoffs run of his career of last year.He has no ceiling even with a below average jump shot and he will become a great all-time if he stays healthy.

I am guessing his 3P% ends up better than his current 28%. His attempts look good/confident and he is hitting long 2s well. He is probably killing from 3 in practice.

It's kind of weird how little traffic this thread gets. Giannis is in the midst of yet another all-time great regular season. Probably the MVP front runner right now, IMO.

He has had a rough go of it with the new off-arm push off rules. His turnover rate and foul rate have both skyrocketed and he’s fouled out or close to it in a couple games just on offensive fouls alone.

I’m excited to see them match up with Philly on Christmas. Philly is probably the only team in the league with the personnel to have a prayer at guarding him. Will be a good insight into his growth as a player.

AD and Bron can do a decent job on him too, especially when Dwight is in the game.

He's gone under the radar, but he is just a monster on both sides of the court.

He's out there like a 2k created player on easy mode.

Surprised the media don't talk about him much.

He’s being reffed to a different standard than other star players. No doubt that Giannis commits more offensive fouls and turns it over more than others due to his style of play, but he also does not get the same calls guys like Harden and James get. Defenders are allowed to hip and body check Giannis to knock him sideways when he’s attacking the basket without a call when someone like Harden gets FTs in the same spot. It’s somewhat similar to how Shaq used to struggle getting calls because of his physical dominance inside. Defenders are allowed to maul while if Giannis even swats away a reaching hand he gets called for an offensive foul.
