An MVP that can’t make fts? Na, give it to JJ reddick or something, he can make his fts

LeBron is playing great and had the narrative on his side. Giannis will have to get a top 2 seed in order to win the award. The only way he will ensure that he wins it is if the bucks get the #1 seed honestly. The media very much wants to see LeBron win #5 mvp and will give it to him if he has any reasonable case.
And the thing is LeBron has a great case right now. But this conversation is way too premature. We should start talking about this more around the allstar break, when numbers will have settled and we'll have reasonable projections. Both the lakers and the bucks could slip in the standings.

Lebron has a great case in a Giannis-less league. As is, it would be one of the worst picks of the MVP if it went to anyone but Giannis. The gap in production between him and Lebron is like the same as Lebron and a mid-tier star

Lakers are massively outperforming expectations. No one expected them to have the best record in the league. Expectations play a role in voting.

Sure. but when the difference is Giannis putting up never before seen numbers while still anchoring an elite defense vs Lebron putting together 'just' another superstar season, then ya, it would be a travesty for Giannis to not win. Lakers would need a big edge in the standings, which, injury barring, i dont see them having any edge at all.

31/14/6, top tier defender anchoring a top tier defense and beats Lebron across the board in advanced metrics (some of them significantly so). I'm not even saying the media wouldnt vote for Lebron. Im saying it should be seen as an absolute robbery.

Both SVG and Mark Jackson said Lebron is MVP tonight during the game, said they dont know how it is anyone but him at the moment.

I agree Giannis is leading, but Lebron is right there in the thick of it.

Both true statements. For me Giannis is clearly a superior force at this stage of their respective careers. However I cannot claim that LeBron wont deserve MVP if he has an elite statistical season and the Lakers get the best record. By the standards we have typically awarded MVP throughout history he would deserve it.

If the bucks get the best record with Giannis current output and then LeBron still gets it? That would be a travesty. Because again Giannis is a better player and he does more for his team than LeBron arguably on both ends of the floor without another star.

LeBron is playing with Anthony Davis is he not? Then going by the criteria that was bandied about for the past 3 years he should be excluded or at the least suffer a large penalty in comparison to a player leading his team without another superstar. But now we are hearing people change their tune and ignore the prior arguments. It's nauseating. It is why LeBron for me has developed a question mark around him. It is evident he is given favorable treatment. If LeBron wins the MVP despite Giannis maintaining the season that he's been having and Davis being a factor then the league and media will become an even bigger joke than they already are.

Neither Steph nor kd has deserved mvp the past 3 seasons so your argument is false based on nothing.

Lakers this year:

LeBron on: 116,7 ORTG, 103,6 DRTG (+11,1 net)
LeBron off: 103,9 ORTG, 107,0 DRTG (-3,1 net)
LeBron on (without AD): 119,2 ORTG, 103,4 RTG (+15,8 net)!
Davis on (without LeBron): 104,5 ORTG, 110,2 DRTG (-5,7 net)
LeBron, Davis on: 115,6 ORTG, 103,7 DRTG (+11.9 net)

LeBron per36:
With AD: 22.6pts, 53.6%ts, 12,4ast
Without AD: 33,8pts, 64,0%TS, 8,7ast

And it's important to point out that 1/3 of a court time of LeBron is without AD, so that's a lot.

I think these stats are related to the fact that Lakers play lot of minutes with two 'typical' bigs (Davis, McGee/Howard) what's troublesome from perspective of player like LeBron (attacking a rim, drive and kicks and so on).

And it easily shows how great is LeBron this year (making +15 net with Kuzma and Howard) and how Lakers are nowhere near exploiting full potential of AD-LeBron duo.

So while right now AD with his DPOTY performances is one of reasons why Lakers are 16-2 - he seems to be some limitation for LeBron from perspective of his individual stats and efficiency, and not only because of decreased LeBron's usage in scoring.

That's why - while right now Giannis is the MVP thanks to his stats and defensive production, I wouldn't be suprised if LeBron even improves his stats in second part of a season, because he won't play on ~53%ts with AD for full year, I believe.

A man better than me can look up the numbers, but I'm pretty sure Lebron always puts up better numbers in January, Feburary, March, heading into the postseason.

This is Giannis' award. LeBron doesn't deserve to be in the conversation with AD on his team, imo.

Giannis could use a guy who could put 41p with DPOY defense on his team if he is a limitation for MVP Lebron.

Again, yes LeBron has Davis in his team, but we need also to look at the rest of the roster...This is not the Warriors in the last 3 years….Even that,Curry and Durant were not the best players in the regular season...Far from that.

Giannis deserve to be the MVP right now but LBJ don't deserve to be out because he has Davis in his team, since the rest of his roster is nothing special….

It's not a false argument unless he previously claimed that Steph or KD deserved the MVP in those years over another elite player.

And yes it is true, LeBron has AD who is a perennial MVP candidate and essentially as good overall as he. The reason I give LeBron the credit is because of how the team is actually playing and how much lift he appears to be responsible for. So I will only discount LeBron if Giannis or someone else continues to have a better season while their team records are comparable. And if the Lakers dont get the best record lebrons chances will drop a lot.

Some of you don’t watch Giannis play... and it shows.
