Igor knows he would still be employed by the Suns had he gotten a chance to coach Luka on this team.

That summer was weird. Hire the coach of the prodigious EL MVP who is also a top #1 overall pick contender and we end up drafting Ayton who, now in hindsight, Igor has no idea how to really use him (at least in his rookie year).
Definitely didn't seem like we had our ducks in a row

I was thinking about it the other day, and was thinking that if James Jones would have been more involved in the process, he probably would have wanted Doncic, since he played with LeBron for so long and they have that similar "it" factor and work ethic, etc.
But I am pretty sure that the scouts and McD wanted Ayton. I've posted before that Rusillo had said people claim Sarver is enamored with Doncic (probably reminded him some of Nash) but the FO wanted Ayton.
Of course the scouts and McD get fired and Jones takes over the job.

I've said it a thousand times but I'll never understand why mcd wasn't fired the day after the 17/18 season ended, it was the perfect time to clean house and bring in a whole new regime.

I also didn't understand that, and why he did not push all his chips on the table at that historic draft. Back then we had more quality draft pieces, and a couple of useful/OK players. If we went with Doncic at 1 I'm pretty sure we could have WCJ at 8 from chicago for pick(s), (ours next year, MIA 21 unprotected, Mil pick, 2nd rounders) TJ, etc. McD was really weird... I guess by that time he kinda had to feel the heat, yet he didn't really try to do anything about it as it seemed.

People are putting way, way too much stock in the Igor hiring. Igor was a nice addition when the team desperately need any kind of coach that wasn't garbage. Sure, by the Suns' low standard, he looked great on paper and fans like myself were excited. But by league standards, he was very meh. His resume was very meh. There's a reason why he has been in the circuit for so long yet is rarely given the opportunity to lead a team.
He was interviewed extensively well before the Suns knew where they would pick in the lottery. I doubt Ryan picked him with the draft at the forefront. I think they hire him because he was the best they could do and hope that his ball movement would open Devin's game (which it did).
I was an Igor fan. But judging my the interview he just gave, I have to take him down a couple of notch. That was some Hue Jackson's malfeasance /stupidity there. He is going to be quiet because of professional "code" but passive-aggressively implying something else. Lol please, Igor. Dude is so stupid. Does he not realize that he's the assistant coach on the team that people truly believe messed up by not drafting Luka instead of Marvin? Good riddance.

He wasn't as good as I had expected, however, at the same time, this guy has done very well overseas and has always been a top assistant. He might be a better assistant, but at the same time, his roster stunk which is used as an excuse for Booker not winning but as far as Igor goes, it was because he was bad. You can only get a crap roster to play so well. You see the team even as is without Baynes out there and especially when Rubio isn't either, start to not give a crap...even though the G leaguers and young terrible players are gone. It's just some of the players mentality to feel like they've lost if things certainly turn the wrong way. Luckily the last two games they found a way to bounce back (or make that two of the last 3, though of course that was Charlotte and a depleted Pelicans team).

This article is interesting because it's a very purposeful leak by the Cavs players to get a message to beilein to realize you can't coach grown men like you coach unpaid barley adult college players.
In general I feel like fans in lots of sports like the idea of this old school coaches but the reality is that **** doesn't work anymore. You can still coach guys hard but you have to do it in a way that fitting for adults.

I was (am?) also an Igor fan, and while it's true he was hired before the draft played out, we knew we had a very high chance of a top 2 pick, which would put us in prime position to land his protege from the Slovenian national team. The team that just won the EC as severe underdogs, just becouse of his tactics, X's and O's, and the backcourt duo of Luka and Dragic. He was also preaching 0.5 offense, and better D, etc... all the things we like (and would have liked) to see now. Fact of the matter is, he never got a roster with 5 actual NBA players on it (maybe if you count rookies, but usually they can't really execute strategy in their first year). So while he ain't Popovich, he is not as bad as many here make him out to be.

Oh it's not really debatable that Igor got a **** deal with a dog crap roster. Now it's unclear if he's a good head coach becy not but last year was so poop you just can't tell.

Apparently their main gripe is:
Player grievances include “nitpicking” over fundamentals, “harping” during long film studies
What this tells me is that this was leaked by some veterans who just want to stuff their statsheet, regardless if it's conducive to winning, and just enjoy the rest of the year not trying too hard (but still getting those paychecks). These vets know they won't make the playoffs, so why not chill instead.
Not really the type of veterans you want to surround your young players with during the rebuild...
