I feel like we're good enough that we don't need to "improve" but also one of the reasons we lost in the playoffs last year is because a good part of the rotation came up small when it mattered most. I don't think it'd be terrible if we could potentially bring in a guy who is a proven commodity. That guy is probably not Robert Covington or JJ Redick though.

trading for someone to replace wes isnt a good look. thats not how you endear yourself to future ring chasers.

Maybe but also how many 70 win paced teams didn’t make it to the finals?
How many didn’t win a championship?
I did not look this up so I may be setting myself up on this one but I think all the pieces are here we just need to be healthy

Considering this season two teams are on that pace.. at least one will not win a championship.

oooof, that is depressing given the officiating will not be in our favor

Chatting with a buddy about the potential of adding Covington and now I’m livid all over again over the stupidity of not getting that TPE in the Brogdon deal. I don’t care how anyone tries to justify it. There is zero reason to not have it.

It would mean they'd have to take on around 10 million in salary and multiply that when it comes to luxury tax. And they didn't want to do that even if they'd have theoretical flexibility. They'd much prefer this way of having to ship out close to comparable salaries. They'd add 2-3 but not 10.
P.S.: Don't shoot the messenger.

If it makes you feel any better, the TPE wouldn't have been big enough to get RoCo.

No worries. I may be misinformed but if we had that TPE, wouldn’t we be able to something like Sterling, DJ, the Indy picks for RoCo and it would only add around 5 mil?
Regardless though. There was no competitive reason to not acquire that exception. All that said to me is the owners didn’t even want the option as there’s no way shape or form they’d entertain going into the lux.

Wonder what your thoughts would be on Terrence Ross? If we believe Dante can fill the PG position as Giannis and Khris would be the main ball handlers. Bledsoe would become expendable. Ross could be our Lou Will. Would the magic do straight up trade?

Sorry, but you can't aggregate the TPE like that. If we had the TPE , we'd be able to use it only on players with salaries of $10 million or less.
You're still right to be annoyed by the lack of a TPE though.

How much of an upgrade would Covington be over Ersan in Bud's system?
On the one hand, he's an ideal kind of 3&D player under 30 on a fair contract for years to come.
On the other, he's had enough injuries to give pause, and we'd need to trade Ersan or a variety of other role players to open space for him, either of which would cause roster instability.
Basically if RoCo wouldn't have a George Hill style resurgence here it wouldn't be worth dealing the Pacers pick.
And even then we'd be dealing one of our very few easily-tradeable assets for a really good bench guy.

It heavily favors winning percentage which makes sense for the best player on best tean but not so much for the second best player on the best team By the way if Brook gets his **** together on offense he could realistically make the allstar game. There aren't that many centers that are above him.

We need to talk about Lopez. Not Robin. The other Lopez. He's been bad this year. Not only on offense but occasionally on defense. We just handed him a 4 year deal which looked like a solid number but could turn sour real quick. Also I'm still convinced Giannis best position is ultimately at center.
I'm wondering if we should consider flipping him (though the optics would be very bad).

The defense is built around him anchoring the middle. His effect on team rebounding is huge. He has been awful on offense at times, but he has definitely shown he is a way better three point shooter over the past few seasons than he has been thus far this year. So, he likely will shoot better the rest of the way. He went through cold streaks last year too. When he clearly doesn't have it and the other team forces a switching defense, Bud does sit him.
Missing Bledsoe really exposes the drop zone defense because Bledsoe is elite at fighting over screens and challenging from behind.

Imo Giannis could anchor the defense just as well inside (if not better) and wouldn't be a liability when forced to hedge on screens. It's worth having a discussion about.

I think the key is that Bud might not want Giannis to be the anchor; I think he likes having Giannis as a disruptive roamer.

I think it was sour from the beginning. You have to remember that paying him more than the MLE was the only reason for all those crazy financial gymnastics they pulled in free agency. They didn't have to create cap room, pull Brogdon's QO as part of the trade, waive/re-sign Hill, settle for the room MLE, or even kick the can down the road with Leuer's contract, which could have had value as an expiring.
Maybe BroLo would have signed some type of 4/$60m deal with a loser like the Knicks or Kings, but I would have taken that chance, unless I had reason to believe Giannis would be furious. I think they could have either kept BroLo or replaced him adequately with the full MLE though.
Wut we've got here is... faaailure... to communakate.
