Wow! I had to check that, because I couldn't believe it, what a bargain!

Rosas deal. Nowell contract is 1+3 as well. Many wondered why Rosas negotiated Nowell deal, now it is clear why.

Did you guys double check those contracts? It appears they are different length deals according to one place. But I never double checked that.

Nowell listed as 4 yr
Naz listed as 3 yr

I saw elsewhere some kind of difference in ending dates that seemed odd too. Unsure. Nowell listed as January 01 2021. Naz in July 2021. Maybe you can make better sense out of this than I can.

Most recent game condensed

Martin and Naz both with 26. Martin shooting at a ridiculous 71% on 14 shots, and 80% from 3 (4 of 5)

Naz shooting .67 on 15 shots, also .67 from 3 (4 of 6), 5 assists, 11 boards

Nowell with 17 (not efficiently), but 8 boards, 8 assists. 2 blocks

Mclaughlin with 17 (more efficiently), but assists low, two steals

Condensed game is worth the watch. The team has really started to win lately.

Most of the sources I see agree that Reid's Two-Way contract was converted to a 4-year deal, with the 2nd/3rd years unguaranteed and 4th year team option, identical in structure to Nowell's. It's a standard "Hinkie special" deal the eponymous executive pioneered in his HOU days. The 4th-year being team option instead of unguaranteed gives MIN the choice to decline the 4th-year option to make the player a Restricted Free Agent in case the player really blows up.

The one discrepancy is Spotrac which lists Reid's 4th year as unguaranteed in the notes. That was most likely a mistake on Spotrac's part in the notes, because Spotrac also marked the last year salary red, indicating team option. Additionally, they mistakenly marked his free agent status as RFA after the 4th year. He would be an UFA regardless of whether the 4th year is team option and the team opts in or the 4th year is unguaranteed and he plays out the full contract. He would only become a RFA if the 4th year is team option and MIN opts out.

That's an interesting amount of info. What sources would those be?

I don't find it unusal to see wrong or half missing info at Spotrac when not logged in as premium. Some players info will be incredibly detailed and others have conflicting, confusing info or just be out of date. A more accurate place for info would be helpful if you know of one.

Here are a couple of them:

https://hoopshype.com/salaries/minnesota_timberwolves/

https://en.hispanosnba.com/salaries/minnesota-timberwolves

There is also the less likely possibility that many of these sources are wrong and Reid's contract was actually converted to a 3-year unguaranteed deal. If that's the case then Spotrac listing his free agent status as RFA at the end of his contract would be correct.

Basketball Insiders is the go-to source for NBA salaries. Both Reid and Nowell are 1+3s.

Never seen the Iowa team look this amazing as this year. These players are all clicking there. Murphy looked great there too. Seen good Iowa Wolves games in the past but these guys are on a roll every game lately. Slow start to the season and now they are all shooting and clicking. Is it the players, the new coaches or both?

I think it is combination of many things.

1) Nowell, Reid are first round pick talents with some evident weaknesses. The key was 1+3 contracts, so there is no pressure on both sides.
2) They play basically same 1-3-1 system, with strong guidance from Iowa coach Sam Newman-Beck
3) Overall roster is more balanced. In addition to KBD, Reid and Nowell, we have Murphy, Martin, Wigginton, McLaughlin who are all solid gleague players. Last season we had only KBD and Terrell who played impactful basketball.

Which is kinda funny to think about, because they're only 6-5.

They started really slow. I remember wondering why they were losing earlier. But now, it's everyone on fire every night.

Let the Reid and Nowell bench show commence. I don't care if it's ugly as hell at times. I want to be around when it clicks a couple times.

KAT could be helped by playing next to Naz Reid as well, imo.
