Playing him at backup C and only when Mitch is off the floor should have been apparent after the first few games.

I liked the signing. Still do. I just don’t think they’re using him right and instead giving him freedom do whatever whenever. I know I’m repeating myself but using him in a role similar to Harrell would make the most sense. Don’t let him create for himself. Create for him. Don’t have him iso at the wing facing up a guy. Have him face up a guy who’s trying to recover inside the arc. Also 4 out around him.

Seems like the obvious move but the PR hit probably plays a big part in this, unfortunately

100% on point.

Fior a brief moment I felt bad for Randle because he does possess some valuable skills that a better team could use. Then I thought of the monster contact he signed and the moment ceased. He should be traded.

I just hate his offensive game. makes such bad decisions and doesn't space the floor.
even the baskets he makes look ugly as hell with no ball movement, just bullying into people.

Somehow we need Randle to play center and run similar sets.

The problem is we need shooters.

I saw Randle show this kind of play in LA. I liked him then and was happy when we signed him, but of course, I was really unhappy with his play at point forward. It was a disaster, but Miller put him back where he can play to his strengths. Under Fiz, all of his weaknesses were exposed. Suppose we asked Mitch to only be a 3 point shooter instead of what he does best? How much would we like him that way.

We have a lot of things to thank Fiz for. #1 is that he left.

For comparison, here are his numbers in 22 games under Fiz:

16.8 ppg 8.5 rpg 3.5 apg 3.3 topg on 44/24/66. The biggest thing that stands out to me is that although his assist numbers are down 25% under Miller, his TOs are down 45%.

Yeah, it was Miller who thought him how to shoot threes and make free-throws. Hes indeed a genius.

I think his play has gotten better because they have an actual point guard. Randle was doing a lot more than he should’ve and that isn’t Fiz’s fault that Dennis regressed as much as he has. Not to mention Randle is taking the same wide open threes he was taking before, but now he’s making them.

Also let’s not act like Miller’s offense is leading to easier looks for Randle. The man is cooking largely on isolation shots that he was taking before. Fade away step backs in the midrange are shots that he’s making now that he previously wasn’t. And the rotations have been similar Portis Randle and Mitch sometimes all play together. I just think Randle was due for better play because he was just playing really bad for a player with his talent.

That’s fair, but Fiz was guilty of trying to give him ball handling and offense initiation duties regardless of what point guard was in the game. It was too much for him to process. Now he can focus on what he’s good at.

But he was like that on the Lakers as well. He enjoys being a ball handler and a distributor. I don’t think Miller has told Randle to handle less I think he consciously makes the decision to give it to Payton because he trusts Payton’s ability to facilitate. They were teammates in NO and Payton is well respected among the vets.

This is more what I was expecting from him tbh. He's flawed but a player I was interested in. The guy can score.
