that is like a nightmare scenario.....no way they wouldn't want more picks to add to their already considerable stash and his contract runs until Cliff Paul retires from State Farm.

honestly, at surface level, the idea of a chris paul trade nauseates me, but...i do think there is some merit to the concept.

as many have mentioned, it actually might be an opportunity to acquire a 1st for the trouble of absorbing his contract. we're sending back favorable deals. payton and portis are expiring this summer, randle is expiring the following year if they want to decline his team option. because we're still "the knicks" for the foreseeable future, we might have to give up one or both of the mavs 1sts to get there, but a second lottery pick could be worth gambling on cp3. worst case scenario he's dead cap weight. so be it! we shouldn't even be in the elite FA market for a minute, and it's likely we'd hypothetically use one of our two 1sts to draft a lead guard talent anyway. best case, he's an effective mentor for these kids. he also has a player option for 2021-22 which he'd probably exercise to go play for a contender.

not the first move that comes to mind, i must reiterate, but if cp3 is the asking price for flipping recent signings into a 1st without needing to send marcus morris out...that's actually a pretty sensible look for our team
We would need multiple firsts to take on paul

Randle will never be a defensive anchoring big.

However he is good enough to average 20 and 10. Empty stats? We can only hope its good enough to increase his trade value so we can branch up and get assets in a future trade.

It’s not too early. He’s not a winning basketball player. Did u see his effort level last night on defense? Especially in the 4th? Just ball watching. No hustle , no effort.

Maybe he was gassed...no excuse imo. Get that lose ball. Box out. Get that rebound. Every position counts even more in the 4th. Just lazy on defense.

Randle has the highest drpm on the Knicks 9th in the league among pfs

Playing him at backup C and only when Mitch is off the floor should have been apparent after the first few games.

I liked the signing. Still do. I just don’t think they’re using him right and instead giving him freedom do whatever whenever. I know I’m repeating myself but using him in a role similar to Harrell would make the most sense. Don’t let him create for himself. Create for him. Don’t have him iso at the wing facing up a guy. Have him face up a guy who’s trying to recover inside the arc. Also 4 out around him.

Seems like the obvious move but the PR hit probably plays a big part in this, unfortunately

100% on point.

There has been no bigger beneficiary under Miller than Randle. He had his third consecutive game with at least 30 points Saturday night — 30 points, 16 rebounds and five assists against the Wizards — and has seemingly found comfort in his expanded role. Randle has had an adjustment going from the third option in New Orleans, where he had a career season, to carrying the burden in New York. He started his season so poorly that he apologized to teammates in a players-only meeting the morning Fizdale was fired.

Randle’s numbers the last 11 games are emblematic of his progress — 22.6 points, 47.9 percent shooting, 36.4 percent on 3s and 2.1 turnovers per game — and credit belongs to the player more than just the coach. He has been more in control and less mistake prone.

“I’m just playing with confidence, man,” Randle said. “I put in way too much work, sacrificed way too much of my free time with my family, my friends, whatever it is to try to get better at my craft. Things gotta turn around eventually. I try to take things on a game-by-game focus, not really worried about the big picture of things when it comes to that.”

The reasons for Randle’s improvement are manifold. His jumper is falling and his 3-point numbers have rebounded after a wretched start shooting from the perimeter. He is driving the ball more and settling less frequently.

The differences have come in the decision-making, too. His runs to the lane are no longer as quixotic. Randle is finding a balance between hunting his own shot and passing away. His turnovers are down. Teams are still sending double-teams but he is making the right choices with higher frequency, and he’s playing a little faster as a result.

“I’m reading it better, getting to spots better, recognizing how they’re playing and playing at a better pace,” Randle said. “Coach (Miller) is doing a great job of getting me in spots where I can be efficient. A lot of stuff I was doing earlier was just taking too long to get into and it was easy to double. Now I’m able to be a lot more efficient with what I do on the offensive end.”

Randle has actually grown more empowered under Miller. He is averaging five more touches per game but they are coming in different places on the court. He is working out of the elbow more and posting up less and getting to the paint more often — he’s averaging 1.2 more paint touches per game since Miller took over, according to NBA.com.

He is driving to the rim more, averaging 9.1 per game over the last 11 when he had been averaging 8 per game before that. Those drives have been more productive: His field goal percentage has leaped from 44.7 percent to 52.5, he’s passing out of them 43 percent of the time after doing so just 30.9 percent in his first 22 games, and he’s cut his turnovers by nearly half.

“I think he’s done a good job of reading the defenses,” Miller said. “I think he’s taken what’s there. I think the rest of our guys are doing a good job of putting him in position, how to space away, how to read double teams and come back to find openings. And we’ve made some timely shots in those.”

Idk about that. I never backed away from my initial support of the signing.

I Don’t see him saying chit about how I think we should use Randle until he hit a hot streak.

I see a few of you guys trying to band together as team Randle. Quite a few people here were good with him...and knew Shizzdale was trash. There was quite a few loud boo birds though.

I've been a fan and hated Shizzdale using him as LeBron!! I've been calling for him at the 5 all year...with Morris at the 4.

Whatever. Miller has him and the team playing better than Shytzdale ever did. I do think I remember this dude being on the Randle train even when he was a turnover machine...and catching heat for it.

Idc about banding together. Me and 3 actually wanted him years ago so I always make light of the fact of how empty the island has been for years.

I stand by what my approach would be on how to use him. He’s making shots now but that likely won’t last at this clip.

Randle is still a bum, a few decent games aint impressive. Shouldn't have been signed and maybe another fool might think he's worth something.

Pull the trigger, I'll even allow Mills to do it, that's how bad I want his garbage ass off the team.

Randle has significantly improved his play. To hold him accountable for the struggles caused by Fizdale is foolish.
