Somewhat fair, but I'll counter by saying that Paxson's teams have been to the playoffs 11 times since he took over. I have my issues with him, but he's shown over and over again that he can build a playoff team. I also think this Bulls team would easily be the most talented team Drummond's been part of so I disagree that our ceiling is only slightly higher than Detroit's. Our ceiling is as high as LaVine and Lauri's potential, and if that's not good enough they're both tradeable assets.

My problem is, its the wrong era and the wrong time. Drummond is a tremendous player. But his style of ball is a dying breed and NBA teams just dont put much stock in it anymore.

Its like Dwight Howard or Hassan Whiteside. Statwise, they are great.

But if you are paying 150+ million for those types of players, you will be in a world of trouble. Notice how Whiteside whom I consider the same type of player as Drummond has Portland in a 2019 Miami like state of going nowhere. That despite Dame and CJ playing to their same levels. And Whiteside avg 15 and 14 while leading the league in blocks.

I think we would be far worse position paying 190 mil for Drummond with our current roster, then to have a 20 year old WCJ whom we can mold into a future proof 5 and probably pay like 80-100 mil tops in 3 years.

But more importantly, I don't think what fixes the Bulls is a better version of Wendell Carter Jr.

We need wings. Or at least healthy good ones. We need a starting level point guard. We need a quality head coach.

So essentially if we still need what I just mentioned, having and paying Drummond, only makes that job even more difficult.

even in a prior era drummond is not particularly impressive all-around. modest efficiency scorer, poor passer, strong defender and rebounding machine. probably no better than mutombo was

Drummond is in the same mold of guys that can't stay on the floor against certain teams in the playoffs (Kanter, Whiteside, etc) Really want to eat up most/all of our caproom for a guy who literally can't play against certain teams?

Giving him a ton of money would be a terrible mistake.

it's certainly not whiteside that has the blazers playing so poorly. they let 2 quality role players walk in aminu and seth curry and traded 2 more to get whiteside because nurkic has a broken leg. they're now getting out-rebounded whereas they were one of the best rebounding teams in the league last season

You won't get any disagreement from me about the history of this front office, but if you are already thinking "well we ain't gonna do any better, let's just waste it anyways" than that's a level of cynicism even I can't ever get behind.

HomoSapien wrote:I'll add that I don't understand the point of bringing up Butler. That trade is over and done with. From a talent stand-point, we've already lost. We're not getting anyone better than or as good as him. That ship sailed when we missed out on Luka, Young, Morant, and Zion.

Because if signing Jimmy Butler to the max was supposedly locking this franchise into mediocrity, than signing Andre Drummond to anything even remotely close to the max, whilst also completely capping yourself out with the rest of this terrible roster, is the honest to goodness worst "rebuild" I've ever seen in my life. That's legitimately Isiah Thomas level bad.

I realize you have a much, much higher opinion of Andre Drummond than just about everyone else here so I get why you think it's not an absolutely godawful idea. But you're alone on that island.

damn, somebody's a real nba podcast junkie

I don't listen to these all, be sure. I have however sampled all of them, and determined which are worth my time.
So, in the end, I'm actually listening to the Top-3 in each of the 2 categories. I do it on trains, buses and trams, or when
having to perform mundane tasks like washing dishes or cleaning the bathroom. Beats the silent drudgery.

In general I do believe that are simply way too many podcasts out there in every category. Today everyone and their dog has a podcast, so I think there there will be a shakeout and many will, and should, fade away. I also believe that the current obsession with podcasting in general will subside as well. It was new and shiny once upon a time, now not so much. In the end, listening to my favorite music beats all of them anyway.

Oh well, I posted the rankings to try to get some feedback as to what y'all are listening to and like, or don't like.

are you guys checking out the Simmons Book of Basketball pods?
These are unbelievable, esp with some of the guests.

love or hate Bill you can't deny his passion and knowledge of the game make his pods must listen stuff. His enthusiam for the NBA makes me enjoy the NBA 10x more. Kevin O'Connor is another Ringer guy I really enjoy listening to.

Between Simmons, Windhurst, Lowe and Woj dropping weekly stuff I can hardly find time to listen to more stuff. I know some of you guys here are cranking out some good Bulls content but I like full NBA coverage of the league.

It has always been my dream to be able to listen to hours of sports talk SANS COMMERCIALS
Growing up on AM radio and dealing with 55 min of commericals and 5 min of real talk - these things are a revolution, I can't get enough.

But I have to listen to them undistracted or I miss the content. Driving or riding train/bus or mowing the lawn works
Trying to listen while doing something like painting a room or cooking, I cant.
It's like watching TV without the visual to me. I need to be focused.

I also only like when 2 people talk, When they add a third and they all talk, I get lost who is talking.
esp on casts like Wingin It where the players sound the same and they are yukking it up - I get lost.

I absolutely love the player interview podcasts. Woj just nails it, he is an an excellent interviewer.

Seems like everyone has the perception that Jordan's a dick in his personal life. Here's a story from Juwan Howard that combats that:

“It was the summer of ’95, MJ had the Space Jam movie that he was shooting up in L.A. And they built a dome for him [to train in]. Tim Grover was his trainer at the time. Tim was leaving Chicago, and I was training with Tim. This was going to be my second summer training with Tim Grover, because I had hired his services. So he told me, ‘well I’m leaving for LA for the summer to go work with Michael… and I’m thinking like ‘who am I going to have to work with me? I need to get better.’

Tim didn’t offer the invite, but I said ‘you know what? I’m going to LA. So I picked up my bags, moved to LA for the summer, and my plan was to stay in a hotel. Something like an Embassy Suites, something that is very inexpensive – but I knew I would pay a lot of money. And I knew I probably didn’t have the money to pay for a hotel for the entire summer. But I was going to give it a try.

The first day I traveled to LA, I got to the gym, and MJ had heard I was going to be there, he was looking forward to me working out with him. So he offered to give me a room in his house that he was staying at. And I’m like, ‘you know, I don’t want to impose on you.’ He’s like ‘no, you know what, my wife is leaving, I have plenty of room, you can stay with us. I just appreciate the fact that you flew all the way here to come work out.’

…. That was just so nice and kind for MJ to do that. I will never, ever forget that. I got a chance to work out with him the entire summer…. MJ is that type of guy. He’ll give you the shirt off his back, but when it comes time to lace up on the court and you’re standing side-by-side and you’re on the opposite team, you better believe he’s going to do whatever it takes to win.”

He deserves a suspension for that. You can't wind back like that, totally unnecessary.

I love the kid, but sometimes you wonder what goes on in that brain of his. Making such a play isn't toughness, it's idotic.

I don't love him. I think he needs a massive damn suspension or he's on course to cause a serious, career-altering injury to someone when he loses his temper.

Oh, wait, he already did that.

Suspend him. Suspend him hard. Make an example that you just can't do something like that.

The only way that foul would have been OK is if he'd done it to Howard. Portis needs to be sent to the D, G or whatever they want to call it league. I hate that guy so much, would love to give him a taste of his own medicine

Carmelo looks like he could play in the league another 5 years.

He was basically scape goated his last 2 seasons because he was an easy target. I understand there were some concerns with the role, but I think it was more manifested than actual issues.

He was going for the ball and missed and hit the guy in the head. Didn't look intentional at all, so I don't see why it would merit a big suspension, if any.

Most upsetting is how not a single Lakers player went at Portis after that foul.

Return to Chicago Bulls
