Your impressions nor mine do not ipso facto reduce the merits of well-thought out analytics.d-train wrote:Epicurus wrote:Please, Forum participants prone to depression from Blazers' doing poorly (and you know whom you are), don't view this game. Those rankings are an example of why rankings based on stats are BS. The difference between the teams is the impact of having a great player that can't be defended or countered.
Their players, other than Antetokounmpo, are not better than ours. We can't defend or counter Antetokounmpo. They can defend and counter Lillard with or without Antetokounmpo. We don't have an advantage because of 1 player. We try to construct an advantage with combinations of players. They have an advantage because of 1 player. Their 1 player in combination with any player is the equivalent of the 1 combination we don't have any of. The only problem for opponents we have succeeded in creating is the combination of a highpost playmaking big man and our guards, Lillard in particular.

What would that win me if I put $40 on the game?

I totally agree with the notion of just going with Hoard and Little. Portland has an open roster
spot so they presumably would need to convert either Hoard or Moses to a standard contract
and perhaps might have to release someone to convert both two way players.
