Agreed...i woke up sunday morning late to the news and I was very confused and thought it was a hoax, but the next article i read was some sort of tribute to Kobe. I was like....wtf???????????
Kobe Bryant forever
GO LAKERS

I've heard it through the grapevine..NBA gods have already designated Los Angeles LAKERS as NBA Champions in near future. The destiny is real. TRUST ME.

As a 14 year old I was at the skydome hotel trying to meet my childhood idol Magc Johnson, who was an assistance coach on the Los Angeles Lakers at the time, it was about 3:30pm and we were hanging in the lobby of the hotel, trying to be inconspicuous so as to avoid being spotting by security.

We are sitting on couches in the lobby when a tall, skinny kid sits down across from us in a sweat suit, at first we thought he might be a son of a player or maybe someone involved in the lakers training staff, as he was close to our age, and didn’t look or dress like an NBA player.

After about 5 minutes, the kid comes over, introduces himself as Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard, I realize that I have his upper deck rookie card on me, not only did he flip through my stack of cards to find his own, he then took the time to gracefully sign it for me.

My friend had brought a basketball for Magic to sign, when Kobe sees the ball he tells me friend “you should get my autograph on the ball”, at first my friend is hesitant, although Kobe went 13th overall in the draft, he was basically unknown here in Canada, the internet was years away and our media at the time did not cover US high school athletics, Kobe then went on to explain that he would be one of the greatest players to ever play the game and that my friend would regret not getting his autograph.

Kobe must have been really convincing, because my friend ended up getting his signature on the ball, it became as memory that we shared for years, always looking back at how gracious Kobe was with us during that moment and also marvelling at the will and determination of the kid who was barely 17 but already knew and understood his future role in NBA history

Kobe was one of a kind and I would met him many times throughout his storied career, no matter how big the legend of Kobe Bryant grew, he continued to be a down to earth approachable person who was always generous with his time and was always above all, a caring human being.

#RIP Kobe, my friend's most prized possession in life became that basketball, it has always amazed me that you already knew this fact as a 17 year old....

Seeing the "2020" at the end of Kobe's name still gives me a "wtf" reaction. I don't know how I'm going to deal with this. I've never felt this kind of personal loss from a celebrity.

I saw it here yesterday , couldn't believe it was true , watched news to see if it is confirmed. When it was confirmed i wanted to write something yesterday but i didn't know what to say. I liked him as a player , respected what he did in his career and his mentality , he was huge star during my childhood so when i think of him i always remember what was going on in my life and how happy i was but also didn't like his personality and blamed him for breakup of the Shaq - Kobe team but after this hapened i realised how that wasn't that important . I never react emotionally when some celebrity die but because he was very important to everione who watched basketball or played basketball , streetball or training with team, i was shocked and sad. When i saw that his daughter died i was sad even more because he wanted her to continue his legacy and it get worse when i saw videos of the helicopter crash and thought about how she felt in those moments. He will always be the legend because their are a lot of people that loved and respected him.

Another thing i noticed is that most of those that criticized him and said that he was "bad" or had "controversial legacy" were white women and cucks who mourned the death of the Souleimani but were ready to dance on the Kobe's grave few hours after that crash happened. We also had white actresses who worked with Woodie Allen and said how he was wonderfull man but were ready to trash successful POC with fake accusations from 15 years ago. It isn't surprise that all these white feminists, white queers, white SJW's and white socialists had blackface costumes for Haloween parties when they were younger.

One of the things that really resonates with me is him being a middle aged dad that died doing his version of middle aged dad things. That's so different from most celebrity deaths where the circumstances just don't connect with who I am. At the core of it, he and his cohort yesterday died bringing their kids to basketball practice in questionable conditions. Sure, helicopters and other rich people stuff. But most of us parents have rushed out to try to do something for our kids when maybe we shouldn't have. Most often, it works out and we feel gratified in taking on a small risk for their happiness.

It's corny but I keep thinking of the Star Wars meme. He's really brought out the best in a lot of people and will continue to.

Just realized that Wade is suppose to make his TNT debut tomorrow before their scheduled games that includes the Clippers-Lakers. Shaq is suppose to be on set there as well. I have no idea how they get through that.

Why is he a weasel? He's remembering that life is short and wants to make amends and be at peace.

He should have done it privately, not over Twitter. It seems more sincere that way.

it is not a lie, I guess Magic was making his come back at the time, not coaching. I guess I am confused as it happened over 20 years ago and to be honest Magic was not the part of the story that stuck with me, but we were at the Skydome hotel waiting to meet Magic, that I am sure of.

Kobes character development was amazing. Doesn't play his first few years, wins a 3peat but his rings don't "count". Shaq leaves and also his incident in Colorado. Labelled a bad teammate, ball hog etc, struggles to make the playoffs and gets bounced outta the 1st round. Lakers trade for Pau and he wins back to back, also an Mvp. Towards the end he blew out his achilles and was basically done at that point, but leaves us with 60 in his final game.

But after he retires he steps away from basketball and sets his sights on making films, dude won an Oscar! but his daughter is now playing ball and through her passion for it he starts coming to nba games more and seemed to be at peace with everything. Farewell to the Black Mamba and Gigi, and also to the others who passed as well. Shyt is crazy fam but it's a harsh reality, death is promised for us all and we never know when our time will be up, so enjoy it and don't sweat the small stuff!

He did.

why would I make this up? what motivation would I have lying to post on a board I read daily but almost never post on?

Thought work would be a good distraction but it's been very difficult to get anything done. People all around me are just devastated.
