I think so. He would be a good fit in Toronto's development system.

Re: 2020 NBA Draft
We’ve reached a point where really good three point shooters, with the ability to think the game really well are better than super athletes who can’t shoot. If you can make threes in many different ways, get open, pass and rebound, you’re a superstar. It doesn’t matter if you’re 5’11 like DeVonte Graham or 7’0 like Nikola Jokic. Buddy Hield is more valuable than Andrew Wiggins. Malcolm Brogdon is more valuable than Josh Jackson. We need to stop caring about size or athleticism and look at the game. Sure, someone can turn into an Oladipo, Antetokounmpo, but the odds of that happening are very low. Both guys are smart with a very strong work ethic. For athletes and good sized players, they need a desire to be the best and a strong work ethic. Strong and smart enough to learn how to be great. There needs to be constant improvement. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had great size, but the reason he’s so great is that he is constantly getting better. In Kentucky he improved throughout the year. He continues to do that. Someone like Wiggins was always inconsistent throughout college, he looked like he was improving because of his big games, but would often fall back down to earth. He wasn’t learning or getting better. Not saying he’s done growing, but is it worth it to draft an all-star 10 years before he becomes one? That’s almost 3 contracts later.

Re: 2020 NBA Draft
^ 1 way prospects with no size or athleticism are a dime a dozen... It takes size and athleticism to defend at the pro ranks and there will always be more value in players with those attributes that are developing skills offensively above high floor 1 way specialist types but low floor on the defensive side with no ceiling.

I understand that Tre Jones is a great defender and facilitator but I can't get over his lack of perimeter shooting and athleticism. Impact wise he's probably a poor man's Marcus Smart and Marcus Smart isn't afraid to shoot 3s and has like 30 pounds and 2 inches on him.

This could be one of the worst drafts in NBA history.

The film has caught up to Nico. Teams are giving him no space to shoot knowing he can’t penetrate. Idk why Miller isn’t running more PNR’s with Zeke to get him going a bit.

I wouldn't say poor man's. He is technically different but yeah, no way can he shoot at the NBA level till maybe year 3.
I think he is a Lindsey Hunter type with more self creation skills, PG skills, and better shooting potential.
I like him in that 18-30 range. There aren't too many defensive minded PGs who can run an offense well and Jones is one of them. That position is extremely offensive minded but I can see him being a decent spot starter and an excellent backup PG down the road.
His lack of offensive shooting skills is his killer even if his offensive talent isn't lacking. He shoots it worse than Kris Dunn. That's a massive problem even if I find him to be better offensively skills wise as a prospect.
If he can fix his shooting woes, he might can be like the next Kyle Lowry or Mookie Blaylock. He is a legit good Basketball player.

Because in the PnR, you still gotta get to spots. I am becoming more sold that he's not athletically built for the NBA.

Re: 2020 NBA Draft
Nico is one of those guys that is going to be hard to read after 1 year. He could either be a steal or bustish. But he’s still only a freshman, we can’t declare he’s done growing muscle or done growing as a player. I think a lot of us want to think he’s a poor man’s Lonzo Ball, but you never know, maybe he develops his game over the summer or has someone in the NBA teach him how to correct his mistakes. Even before college Nico has a great track record as a worker and a thinker, I can’t imagine he doesn’t find some success in the NBA. He uses his energy on the floor and to me that can translate to winning culture.

Freshman PG's are dangerous to take on. Some hit, a lot miss. Patience is key.

It really depends on how much you value those kinds of players but based off this and the few previous seasons I don't think they have much value compared to other PG types. Defensively, just how good is he going to be? I really think you're going to have to hope that Tre Jones becomes a decent 3-point shooter in the NBA. He's a really safe pick with a low ceiling. Wouldn't be surprised if the Heat drafted him but I prefer some of the other prospects that have higher ceilings. I wouldn't gamble on him becoming a solid 3-point threat. He's more of a late 1st to early 2nd pick to me. Plenty of prospects with good ceilings should be out there.

I really like him as a 3nD prospect he’s somewhere in the lottery for me right now
20 years old with Good size and length (6’7 with a plus wingspan) but a little thin right now (listed at 195)
Has nice fluid mechanics and a nice high release point
Showed some improvement shooting off the dribble and playing on ball this season and is just a generally smart player off ball
On top of that he’s a fantastic defender especially off ball where he’s already making quick high level reads fairly consistently.
If he can continues to shoot well he’s a great piece to a winning team as a 3nD wing.

Anyone with Tres' name has to be tough - gotta root for him. I saw some video of him a month or so ago, and he does not pass the eye test - he does not look at all athletic. Still, he manages to be amazingly productive - even on defense, and he's got that 6'8 220ish size that fits real well in the NBA. I think he has a shot to make the end of an NBA roster. Never had a real good 3 point shooting percentage. Factor in that he's a 5th year senior, so he should be putting up big numbers - but he's done it throughout his career.

you're preaching right here and i love it but the idea that "I can teach this athlete/tall person, how to play basketball" will always over rule that logic end of the day. Especially if a team has nothing to lose in the process.

So what you're saying is you're with me about Markus Howard being a 1st round pick then...
In all seriousness Im with you on this though. But you're always going to have GMs thinking they have the training staff to take that raw long athlete and turn him into the next Giannis. I wont lie, I agree with you 100% and I still find myself favoring the raw athlete many times. Its that damn "potential" that can be too intriguing sometimes. Even though high end 3pt shooting might be the best kind of potential there is.

most of the time they're business men end of the day and you don't reach that level of success in business without taking gambles. When the payoff is a Giannis type super lotto hit compared to a Brogdon type steady 9-5 you take that shot. That mindset will always exist.

as it should, depending on how high you're picking. if you're picking high a best case scenario of a Malcolm Brogdon doesn't really move the needle for u...the only thing that really moves the needle is getting that star.
