he's basically playing the Gasol role but on the wing.

Gasol is an elite passer and defender, and will shoot when open.

McCaw is nowhere close to an elite passer or defender, and will actively pass up open shots.

There is a reason why Gasol is still a top tier bigman according to impact stats while McCaw is rated as one of the worst wing players in the league.

I said he's playing that role, I'm not saying he's as effective as Gasol in that role. I expect him to improve within that role though, if not then I trust Nurse will eventually start to limit his minutes. The thing with Nurse is he is good at bringing out the best in players and putting them in positions to succeed so chances are he'll eventually find a way to hide McCaw's weaknesses and amplify his strengths.

do the Raptors now have the best record in the league in the past 5 years?
On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:
"Yes. Hendo is quite a bit better than DeMar.
So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

Well, it is sad when people can't just post a thread about the coach without it being hijacked. Like the actual player thread and the game to game threads are not enough.

That said, Nurse should screen grab that accomplishment because it is pretty amazing to be in that company. The names that stick out like Kerr and Phil Jackson but you can just say they had one of a kind players to guide them.

Popovich is the gold standard: 24 years at .676 winning %. That is too incredible to even think about. Even with Duncan he still had the team extremely competitive throughout. It is sad to think that LMA and Derozan can't keep the 20 year playoff streak alive.

Congrats and well deserved.

I wrote this about him last April.

The Nurse hate is as irrational as the Kawhi and Gasol hate on this forum. Nurse is not perfect but I would say he is already in that 2nd tier of coaches in the league and is rapidly nearing that top tier.

Just like Masai is writing the book on managing a roster in the modern NBA, Nurse will soon be the standard for coaching as other teams imitate his concepts.

I anticipate his matchup related C rotation and concepts of experimentation in the regular season, saving plays for the playoffs will become industry standards for teams wanting to compete for championships.

News Story April 15, 2039.

Raptors Winning Streak Continues.

The 19-time consecutive NBA Champion Toronto Raptors concluded their 17th consecutive 82-0 regular season. Their regular season win streak is now at 1681 consecutive wins, not including playoffs (where they have not lost a game since Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals). Head coach Nick Nurse now has a career winning percentage of 0.980. Their last loss came on January 12, 2020 against the San Antonio Spurs. Rookie sensation Fred Van Vleet Jr. scored a game high 37 points in the victory against the Dwane Casey led New York Knicks team. 43 year old veteran shooting guard Patrick McCaw announced he will retire after the playoffs. NBA Africa Commissioner, Masai Ujiri, was in attendance at the game.

stop it man  don’t do this to yourself. Glue guy ? What have you been watching ? Last night the guy was a big part of why the Timberwolves got back in the game. Dude was running around like chicken with its head cut of smh he was terrible in the first half. It’s so typical of this fan base to overrate players that have few good plays in key moments without looking at what they did all game. There’s a reason why scrubs like pop sow was loved by this fan base. Reminds me of the people that use to defend Brown because he would make 1 or 2 good defensive plays. No way McCaw should be playing as much as he does. Remember who said it when he’s a major part of the reason we lose soon. The signs are there.

This is in response to those that claim that when McCaw comes in we immediately get worse. We see it in every game thread. We see it above.

In the 15 game winning streak

Raptors are +14.8 / 48 minutes that McCaw is on the floor
Raptors are +8.8 / 48 minutes when McCaw is not on the floor
Positive impact of +6.0 / 48 during the streak.

If we keep it to the last 7 games with Masked McCaw

Raptors are +14.9 / 48 minutes that Masked McCaw is on the floor
Raptors are +5.6 / 48 minutes when Masked McCaw is not on the floor
Impact of +9.3 / 48 minutes

Maybe Nurse knows what he is doing?

I know +/- is far from a perfect stat, but it certainly shows that the momentum has not shifted negatively when he has been on the floor recently. In fact our team has performed better with him on the floor ... significantly better during the streak. Before this streak the stats were certainly going in a negative manner, but not lately.

You can start another new thread in the next 3 or 4 games after Nurse passes Kerr again.
