What has been asked from him is to shoot, not necessarily from 3, midrange will also cut it.

Simmons post game looking better. He doesn’t need a jump shot per se. but he needs to improve the post up game. He actually have a nicer looking jump hook than Embiid. Embiid doesn’t have any feel for the hook shot at all.

Not being afraid of the free throw line anymore has a great deal to do with his fearless attacking. Notice the increase in aggression going to the rack ever since he began to hit FT's at a 70+% rate.

He has so much talent and so many phobias. He was locked into doing one thing and doing that one thing well. When teams adapted to him, the change over to expanding his game has been slow because he was resting change, resting growing, resting becoming a better player. He still has work to do. But it is nice seeing him actually grow.
I recall earlier on this season Paul Pierce saying "Ben Simmons peaked as a rookie !" And he was not wrong at that time. It's good to see Ben growing now.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way. (Marlo)

Crazy this guy averaged 11.9 ppg in November. Yeah he got hurt early in the Jazz game but even not counting that he was under 13.
21.3/9.4/7.9 in 2020. 67% from the line too.

Its as if he turned into a different player. His finishing ability also improved.

Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread - Part IV
i cant really pin point when the exact change happened. he definitely is a different player right now mentally vs what he was like at the beginning of the season.
but i feel like after the first miami loss his aggressiveness ticked up a notch. that's 20 games ago and in that span he's averaged 21/10/8 on about 14 shots a game and almost 7 FTA which he's hit them at 68%. that's basically lebron's FT % from the over the last 4 seasons. i'd like to think this 20 game span is a good enough reference to point to a change and i hope this continues and even improves further through to the end of the regular season and hopefully into the playoffs.
now the 'if only he adds a jumper' type of mindset as a fan is starting to creep in again but im perfectly fine with accepting him as he is, for all his limitations as a shooter if this is how it's going to be for the rest of the career naturally lots of people are going to be disappointed if their expectations of him were to be a top 20 all timer. but honestly for me personally, once i stopped holding him to that standard i started to appreciate all the other **** he does for the team.
is being ok with him topping out as a more athletic, better passing version of demar de rozan, but can also screen/roll off the ball like a smaller steven adams? maybe thats not even doing him justice since i didnt even mention any of his defense.
in the end though i only care about this team winning so ive started to come onside with 76ciology's thinking about building a team around him that compliments his attributes and maybe have some of our other guys like joel sacrifice a little.
but **** we're all in this together so if **** hits the fan and we end up trading ben in the offseason to go a different way (say purposely creating a team around joel) then lets do it.
none of this matters though since we're going to win the championship this season on the back of both of them

There’s no way that this is who Simmons will be for the rest of his career
Remember: he told you what he’s going to do this season and is delivering

The two threes Ben hit were off the catch. His shot in that situation looks pretty good.
It's when he tries to dribble into a shot is when you get those ugly flips or whatever you want to call them that somehow occasionally go in.
Whereas Tobias and Josh are the opposite and need a bounce or two to establish rhythm for their shot.

This x 1000.
This kid is a unique talent, and if the Sixers were stupid enough to make him available there would be 25 teams banging on the door. If what we see now was the way he would be the rest of his career, I would be happy to have him here, and believe we could win with both Ben and Jo. But look at the growth in just the last couple of months - does anyone seriously believe that this kid isn't going to continue to add to his game the way his confidence has exploded?
I'll go back to something I've said a few times on here - his improved free throw shooting is the engine that has elevated his game. Having no fear of going to the line, and in fact looking to get there, has supercharged his confidence level, and that has resulted in the increased aggression and almost reckless abandon he now plays with.
The shooting is the next natural progression, and it will come. Even if it isn't 3's, but just being able to curl around a screen and drain an elbow jumper, he will become utterly unstoppable. Anyone who thinks he doesn't know this is being foolish.
For now, let's just appreciate what we're able to see every night and be damned happy that this guy will be on our side for hopefully his entire career.

There are still plenty of Ben haters here on this forum, so I think the answer to your first question is....yes.
Have to say I'm looking forward to how he does in the play-offs and then the Olympics. I do agree with you that he is improving.

He has hit 3 of them and they were spot up and shoot.
I really don't understand why he doesn't take more from this spot. It's not like he is Lonzo ball in his release.

He should have taken a fadeaway three during the ASG.

Ben "hater" is a little strong. More like a couple guys still holding on to "Brandon Ingram should have been the pick" or "Markell Fultz would have been great if not for Simmons" hold-outs.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down
