Re: Around the NBA 2019-20
Memphis play against the Lakers tonight. Two possible consecutive losses.
They are worse after the trade, Crowder and Solomon Hill gave them great minutes on the wings.
We will see, but that 8th spot is open yet.

Memphis next 5 games are brutal. Twice against the lakers, once vs clippers, Rockets, & Sactown again. Suns may be 4 games within them by next friday.

Man, I guess I forgot over the break that we were more than 6 games behind them. They've been on fire.

Embid says he is the best basketball player in the world. So I guess that ends that.

I'm not sure many, if any non Suns fans would take Ayton over Adebayo.

I know this can be a sensitive topic because many people here are still insecure about it but this reminds me of one of my favorite predraft Doncic quotes “LuKA CaNt ShOoT ThOuGh”.

Doesn't shoot all that great of a % though. Like almost as bad as Booker shot from 3 last year and worse than Rubio this year from 3.

Yeah but volume matters. Without looking, I’m gonna guess Luka shoots double or triple the attempts that Rubio takes.
And him having the same % as Book should be a compliment considering Book is viewed as one of the best 3pt shooters in the league.
Fact that he can do everything else that he does and still be as good a shooter as Devin Booker is absurd.

Booker is one of the best 3 pt shooters in the league at a 3 pt contest, but not in gameplay. He's about league average. Of course these guys are better shooters than Rubio, and they take far more difficult shots for the most part. But Booker has missed a ton of wide open looks too. He doesn't take too many while being guarded any more which is a good thing. You know I think Doncic is a great player but shooting isn't one of his biggest strength, though he does seem to be a very clutch shooter and hits many when it matters. And I do think he will become one of the better shooters in the NBA in time. As for Booker, I don't know why he can't shoot 3s better in games, but this year he is shooting around his career avg 35.5%. Doncic is 32.7% League average for everyone taking them is 35.6%
If you shoot well below league avg, volume doesn't work in your benefit.

Booker is shooting 39% on catch and shoot 3s this year.
https://stats.nba.com/players/shots-general/?Season=2019-20&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&GeneralRange=Catch%20and%20Shoot&TeamID=1610612756&sort=FGA_FREQUENCY&dir=1
He has the second lowest catch and shoot frequency on the team. Only Diallo has a lower % of possessions used this way.
Booker’s averages are very much a reflection of the difficulty of the shots he takes. Rubio doesn’t create Jack **** for book. Kelly can penetrate but we all know the ball isn’t gonna go back out once it goes in with #3.
Booker is only shooting 34% on pull-up threes and he takes a lot more of those, which drags down the average really significantly, obviously.

Yeah, he definitely needs to take more catch and shoot 3s, even though I would expect a higher % based on how good of a shooter he is in non games. Ricky does get him some nice looks, but Book likes to handle and dribble and shoot pull ups which is a big part of the problem there.

Yeah, it’s all very frustrating and there is more than enough blame to go around for all of them.
Most elite shooters shoot something like 45% on open catch and shoot 3s but I’m not sure if there is public play tracking for how “open” the shot was (ie nearest defender within X amount of feet).
Book is not even 50th percentile on CnS 3s, so... Still, doesn’t tell the whole picture because we don’t know how open they are.

Bradley beat just went off for 55 points and a game prior had 53. He's an assassin on offense.

Re: Around the NBA 2019-20
Well, Memphis is losing everything lately and their next game is against the Rockets on the road.
So with that loss, 24 games left and only 4 games behind that 8th spot.
Everything can happen, we need to stay in the race until the last game. The Pelicans are the most dangerous team looking for that last seed, but I can really see a veteran team like the Spurs or the Blazers getting there in the last minute too.
With no more injuries we can beat any of those teams at any moment. There are some direct matchups yet. It is gonna be an interesting race.

The Pelicans clearly have the advantage with a lead AND the easiest schedule, but if we can play even close to last night, and go on a run, that's what we need to focus on. We won't shoot 60% from 3, but even 35% consistently as a team would be good...hopefully a bit better. The game would have been close and down to the wire, because instead of 12/20 we would have been 7/20 so that 15 or so pt lead we had would have been close, but even playing Utah close on the road would be a solid game, particularly with the FT discrepancy and they shot 38.5% from 3 on high volume, but not well in the second half...in the first half at one point they were well over 60% from 3 so from that point on they must have only shot in the 20-25% range.

Too bad we aren't in the East, we'd have a good chance of taking the 7th seed.

Beal's a monster and I'm a big fan of his. He's one of those guys I wish the Wizards moved on from because Free Beal.
Just to remind everyone how good of a scorer Booker is and to selfishly rain on Beal's parade a little bit, Booker went for 59, 50, 48 in consecutive games at the end of March last year and he was only 22.

Honestly, if we're even in the race this season after basically being out of the race from the start of the season the past half decade, I'm already happy.
I mean, the last time we were in the race was when we won 48 games in that fluke season and I think it came down to the last 3 games or something where we needed to beat a team and needed another team to lose to make the playoffs. Riveting stuff
