The 33-year-old right-hander allowed three singles in the first inning and then retired 10 of the last 13 batters he faced.

Chris Russin got 5 SO's in 2 innings. He had a real good 2017 but it seems like pitching for Colorado eventually messes pitchers up, and he had a lot of problems the last 2 years. Maybe he can make a comeback this year with the Braves as a lefty reliever.

MLB.com has both Dansby Swanson and Austin Riley as 2 of their top 10 breakout hitters for 2020. Sounds good to me!

It's way too early to come to a conclusion, but a good sign that both Riley and Camargo are hitting well - OPSing right around 1.030.

Yes!
I'm thankful we have the two as options and I feel confident.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Major League Baseball is expected to suspend spring training beginning Friday.

The writing has been on the wall since Wednesday night, when the NBA suspended operations following Rudy Gobert's positive coronavirus diagnosis. Major League Soccer and multiple NCAA conferences have followed with similar announcements on Thursday. There's little hope that the MLB regular season will begin on time, given that Opening Day is just two weeks away. Look for more details soon.

It's just amazing to see the chain of events from Rudy Gobert testing positive. So many things have closed down today. Even the county school system where I live. Man, I can't believe there won't be March Madness. This is a crazy time. Hopefully, they come up with a good vaccine quickly, and we can return to normalcy. But things will likely get worse before they get better. We'll get through it.

Freddie Freeman makes donation with all 30 MLB teams

On Tuesday all 30 Major League teams donated $1 million to assist workers impacted by the COVID-19 virus. Wednesday, Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman continued with the good deeds pledging $125,000 to Atlanta area shelters and programs to help combat the Coronavirus epidemic. Per ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Freeman will donate $50,000 to Atlanta Food Bank, $50,000 to Giving Kitchen and $25,000 to the Salvation Army.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Major League Baseball is considering doing away with the American and National Leagues for the 2020 season.

It's just one of several scenarios that the league and the players' association is discussing. The idea would be to split the 30 teams between Arizona and Florida based on the geography of their spring training sites, constructing realigned Cactus League and Grapefruit League divisions during what would be an abbreviated season. Nightengale says that the designated hitter "would likely be universally implemented" under this scenario and that two more Wild Card teams could be added or they could possibly have a postseason tournament with all 30 teams. Like the proposed "Arizona Plan," this is just one idea that's being kicked around, as it doesn't appear anything is close to being decided.

Ok yeah, why not mess things up even more? Would there be some kind of benefit to getting rid of the leagues for 1 year?

While we're at it, why not use whiffleballs for 2020?

The Daily Chop: Royals miss out on Acuña, Revisiting Ozzie Albies’ extension and more

Everyone knows that evaluating prospects is an inexact science so we shouldn’t poke too much fun at the Kansas City Royals when they passed on the chance to sign Ronald Acuña Jr. back in 2014 because he was “too small.” That is the story that Acuña told during a recent interview. He went on to say that the Braves offered him a deal after watching him play once. I don’t think even the Braves saw Acuña developing into the player he is today but they must have saw something and this is one that they have to be happy that worked out. https://www.talkingchop.com/platform/amp/2020/4/13/21218513/atlanta-braves-news-royals-miss-out-on-acuna-revisiting-ozzie-albies-extension

ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel have confirmed that the 2020 MLB Draft will only be five rounds.

For reference, the 2019 MLB Draft ran 40 rounds, not including compensatory picks. Passan notes that there was talk between Major League Baseball and the MLBPA of doing 10 rounds this year amid the coronavirus pandemic, but "the sides didn’t come to an agreement." As previously reported, all amateur players who go undrafted will be eligible to sign for a maximum of $20,000. Teams can sign an unlimited number of undrafted players.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports that MLB will try for a regular season in the 80-game range and expanded playoffs.

The league is set for a conference call with the 30 owners on Monday, and if all goes well then, the league will sent a proposal to the MLBPA on Tuesday. The season would likely begin in early July in as many cities as possible and without fans present. The players will be expected to make financial concessions to make things work, so much haggling could occur.

A maximum of $20,000? Is that even legal? I know most things that are collectively bargained are legal, but these future draftees aren't union members - so they're not represented by the union - instead, they're being abused by the union. I guess the question is - How much do players picked in the 6th through 10th rounds typically make?

10th round picks received a six figure income. The signing bonus was typically under 10k.
