You hit the nail on the head. They don’t get their money back since they didn’t give any to begin with essentially. Not saying it’s right but that is almost certainly the main thought behind it.

There probably isn't one but maybe they are allocating money based on average expenses? Maybe someone who makes 150k that has to close down his business has a lot of debt/expenses he could potentially default on. Its BS though

Those people are probably already on some form of government assistance and maybe the repubs are thinking they will continue to get that assistance with no change in their lives like losing a job. This stimilus is supposed to help those that lose their jobs and keep them afloat.

This is just my assumption.


Thanks. Yea I think this makes more sense. I haven't seen anyone have to answer the question yet though, but I haven't searched for the answer either. This idea is logical though and honestly it's not that crazy or ridiculous. But, they're probably a bit off in not realizing plenty of normal working people like waitresses would fall under that number and are out of work.

DingleJerry, the answer to your question simply has to do with the ideology of the Republican Party for over 50 years now.

Remember, Ronald Reagan famously said this about government:

"Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem."

"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the Government, and I'm here to help. "





In the 1960s, Barry Goldwater and the John Birch Society argued that Federal Government intervention to end Jim Crow Laws and Segregation was a threat to State Rights and a misuse of Government Power.

As a result, the reason for Republicans not wanting to include low-income people is because it goes against the ideology that the government shouldn't actually be helping anyone no matter the crisis or circumstances.

Instead, it should be the private sectors, local charities, church groups, and your local community that should be helping you.

There is a reason why Grover Norquist, one of the most powerful Conservatives in America, whose anti-tax policy and shrink the beast ideology said this: "I'm not in favor of abolishing the government. I just want to shrink it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."

Therefore, the Federal Government shouldn't be leading the way in a situation such as this.

It's a pretty stark difference to how Quantas is acting here in Australia.

As far as I understand they are getting some kind of money relief from the government but they're already working with other companies (supermarket chains and telecommunications for example) to find their staff work during the crisis.

That's awesome man thanks so much. I was going online to see how to translate in LOL. This has been an absolute eye opener that hypertension is a serious underlying issue.


What do you think if someone had COVID-19 and recovered? Is that an underlying condition? I think one can get it again.

I believe that in prior corona virus' such as SARS recovery gave you an estimated 2-3 year immunity period. So if COVID19 operates similarly there should at least be a significant grace period between the next time you catch it.

You have a point. I'll admit wrestling with rationality and emotion when making decisions. A post earlier in this thread gave a link to a study about how the virus does on surfaces. Cardboard (i.e. pizza boxes) was the least hospitable surface for the virus if I remember right, so there's something to be said for getting pizza.
