Re: Shams: The season is suspended / Coronavirus Thread
I wonder.. us non-US Magic fans in this thread sometimes feel clueless when you guys discuss Trump. Well let me put it this way.. its not only your leader that fumbled the ball by downplaying and not acting early.. its practically everyone else EXCEPT Taiwan that has a history of china's BS and thus acted accordingly.
As to the response.. it does seem.mindblowing that the most pwerful country in the world lacks a lot of stuff to combat this problem ( vebtilators, masks, hospital beds test kits ) I actually dont know if its true or not.. im just assuming it is because a lot of you say so.
However as history show... this is good news coming. WW2, Iraq, 9-11... The USA, when they are locked in one direction is unstoppable. Im pretty sure in the next month or less you guys would be producingnin excess and shipping to thosrnof your allies your extra mask, kit, drugs etc

Re: Shams: The season is suspended / Coronavirus Thread
In middle of all this madness my capital city was striked by pretty strong earthquake.
Looks like only 1 person might be with serious injuries, but even more panic and people staying on streets and people from hospitals are being transfered.
As for corona and countries preparation. It just shows one thing :every single country in the world has to have own supply of "survival kit" for their citizens including medical equipment, food that can last and army that can not only defend country from invaders but one that can save lifes from nature itself.
I'm not much of a religious person, but in this moments only thing we can do is pray.

The Orange County Convention Center is now anticipated to become a drive-through testing site for the coronavirus on Wednesday, March 25.
At one point, officials had said the site could be ready as early as March 20, but later pushed the date back.

“The federal government and the state are working to set up the drive-thru testing site as quickly as possible,” a spokesperson for the Joint Information Center on COVID-19 for the State of Florida wrote in an email.
When ready, the site will be used to test health-care workers, first responders and those 65 and older with COVID-19 symptoms. Those meeting that criteria will be swabbed to obtain a sample, which will then be sent to a lab to be checked for the virus.
Operating hours are expected to be 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. — or whenever testing supplies run out for the day.

in just one week, the hospitals in NYC will be overwhelmed. people will start to die in their homes and USA will lead the world in the number of active cases. and I wonder will any of you people ask the question then, why USA, with all of its might, will be the country that have it almost the worst in the developed world.

Re: Shams: The season is suspended / Coronavirus Thread
Alright, I've got a few things to say. I've tried my best to be a part of the solution, to present facts, as well as my opinion that may help others through this crisis. People need an outlet to seek out information, to vent and release their pent up fears and emotions in a cathartic way. The last thing we need is to clamp down on discussion and discord because we dare involve politics. That may work when the topic is about a local basketball team, but definitely not about much else outside of that, especially pandemics. My filter has never been at the tips of my fingers, mine has always been between my ears. I can see things that I dislike or disagree with and still able to formulate an opinion and express my thoughts without running and screaming into the other room and locking the door. There should be no such thing as a message board anywhere if that's all we want to do is talk about nice things, things that everyone finds tasteful or acceptable. The solution for heated dialogue isn't no dialogue, its more dialogue. Use words to convey your thoughts, bring others back to a calm acceptable space so reasonable debate can continue. I've never been a fan of punishing everyone for the actions of a few.
The next, is moral equivalence. I cringe when I hear people say that there isn't a dimes bit of difference between all the candidates or the two parties, or this guy vs the other guy, and therefore I don't bother to take a stand. I don't vote because they are all the same, the system is rigged, I won't be able to make a difference or cause change. To me, you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. Its your right not to participate, but you never should have a problem ever again with anything wrong around you then. From your roads and bridges, kid's school, to a nations response to a pandemic. Government is in someway or form responsible for nearly everything, we do choose people to represent us after all. And if you feel like suing someone because you feel you've been wronged, don't bother, those laws too come from our government. Just continue to pay your taxes, its the only thing you are compelled to do, well that and dying. Don't think you have any justification to ever have an opinion again about such matters, unless you take a stand and make a decision. The best option is rarely if ever on the ballot. No, your choice is which is the better option. Which one helps make this a more perfect union. That means first finding out about what you care about. Then, contrast those priorities to which one of the candidates best articulates those issues. And then, make a choice and vote. You don't have to stand tall in this world, but you at least have to stand up. To take that for granted, when people have served and died to defend that right, is irresponsible to the extreme. This is not meant to attack anyone or single anyone out in particular, but they are my thoughts that have been circulating in my head lately and I wish to release them for my own catharsis.

Ironically, the main people who are posting their Anti-Trump tirades here are the ones who got a Coronavirus thread closed on their board blasting their personal bias's. Hence, they are doing the same thing here.
They need to take their hate to the politicalforum.com

You seriously think your presence in this conversation didn't have a significant impact in that regard? I suppose that is consistent coming from someone who thinks its funny to spook others working hard and trying to make a difference during a national crisis.

It did after reading nothing but pages of hate from one side non-stop. That is all some people can do is blast their personal narrative. I would prefer political hate to not be a part of this discussion but people discussing what is going on out there with solutions or ideas. Tired of the negativity. But, if those same people only want to blast hate, I will call them out.

Who knows what to believe. Italy has bodies piling up and Idris Elba and Tom Hanks look like absolutely nothing is wrong.

So far, your only contribution has been an illustration of irony. I suppose there is another. You do help make my previous point. If people following along in this thread can't make a clear distinction between the nature of our arguments, and see only that we are both talking tangentially about the same topic, politics. Therefore, choosing to dismiss both of us out of hand because of that, well that isn't either one of our faults then is it?

I would assume that Hanks and Elba have access to the best healthcare in the world given their status so I won't use them as a gauge.Last Guardian wrote:Who knows what to believe. Italy has bodies piling up and Idris Elba and Tom Hanks look like absolutely nothing is wrong.

Re: Shams: The season is suspended / Coronavirus Thread
Last week Trump invoked the Defense Production Act. This could be used to fast track manufacturing of medical supplies, ventilators, etc. He invoked the act but he has NOT ordered for the act to be used. This is downright negligent. Hospitals across the country are in dire need of supplies, we can't continue to wait for private industry to be the savior, they are and will take too long. What are you waiting for?

My personal belief is it'll be worse in Florida than NY because our leadership is still in denial. NY is making their own tests and testing everyone. Here the tests are so limited that they have to be more selective. So people who have a little cough don't know and they're out spreading it.fklt wrote:Duradero wrote:Can I go anywhere on the internet and not encounter anti-trump circlejerks?

Watching Cuomo saying that they want more funding because they have more cases. Can't argue with that.
Smart thermometer says the state of Florida and NY have the highest spike in temperatures.

Ignorant question alert:
are tests really that important to have at this point? Isn't everyone who has been paying attention staying indoors unless absolutely necessary? I feel like this question sounds dumber as I'm typing it but I guess it seemed a lot more important for tests initially rather than now.

Not a medical person but I assume it's important for hospitals and healthcare providers to have a positive or negative diagnosis so that the patients get the proper treatment. Also so the medical workers can protect themselves properly and the patient can be quarantined.j-ragg wrote:Ignorant question alert:

Re: Shams: The season is suspended / Coronavirus Thread
The absence of good, quick diagnostic testing in our country has been a debacle and is the biggest reason we're going to fall behind in controlling spread of the pandemic. That's the biggest difference between our country and others that have been successful like South Korea. We still have no idea the extent of this virus in the country.
The second biggest debacle is the lack of personal protective equipment for the healthcare workers. We're barely 2 weeks into the fight and already rationing masks.
I hate placing blame in a middle of a crisis. It's mostly unproductive. There will be plenty of time for that after we get through this.
But it's undeniable that the administration and CDC must take responsibility for the delayed response in taking this seriously, absence of tests, and lack of supplies and equipment at our hospitals. The inherent inequities of our healthcare system have also shown their warts. There are tests with quicker results, but it seems like you have be an NBA player, celebrity, or wealthy to obtain one of those. The hospital and ED visit bills that patients are receiving are so variable depending on their insurance coverage, making people think twice before going to get tested. When in a pandemic, the goal is to get as many people tested as possible.
