Senate coronavirus vote delayed after Rand Paul pushes doomed amendment
Sen. Chuck Schumer called the Paul amendment "ridiculous" and "a colossal waste of time"

Senate leaders were scrambling Tuesday to pass coronavirus legislation as quickly as possible, but Sen. Rand Paul put a damper on those plans, two leadership sources told NBC News.

Senators were heading toward a vote on the package — which would include provisions for free coronavirus testing, secure paid emergency leave, enhance unemployment insurance, strengthen food security initiatives and increase federal Medicaid funding to states — but they had to slam on the brakes because of an amendment Paul proposed.

Now we'll see how dangerous vaping, e-cigs, etc are to healthy young adults who were marketed these products as safer than smoking. We've been told that the 20-49 age group has required hospitalization as well, early to speculate but hopefully people take their respiratory system more seriously now.

Authorities need to hammer in the idea that "staying inside" will only produce 'results' 2, 3 weeks after it.

Even after the inevitable mandatory quarantines, the numbers will keep going up.

Italy has been shut down for a many days now and they're still not seeing the results. Next week is "crucial for them" (their words) in seeing the results of their lockdown.

In the US there are still mass gatherings. These will impact the numbers 10-14 days from now...

It may be a semantics issue. There are multiple companies that are now in the beginning stages of shifting production towards making PPE's. My guess is that the Federal Government figures it is best to keep that bullet in the chamber until it is absolutely needed. If companies like GM, Tesla, Hanes, and Ford were not stepping up, the Government would act.

This. A soccer story from Italy: Daniele Rugani was tested positive on the 11th of Marc, then the entire Juventus team went into home quarantine and everyone got tested. No other player was tested positive. Then 6 days later Blaise Matuidi (teammate of Rugani) tested positive, then again 4 days later Paulo Dybala.

The combination of contagiousness and the lenght of the incubation period is insane.

Trump said as of now companies are stepping up voluntarily so he hasn't yet used the DPA to force them to do anything.

And yes it's not that simple. Why do people think a piece of legislation can fix everything?

The factories have to adjust and do something they weren't previously doing. They are doing it but it can't be done instantaneously.

A lot of this stuff we were probably buying from China and those supply chains may be closed as well.

It's shouldn't even be voluntary this is an emergency which is what the act was created for. Precious time has been and still being wasted.[/quote

The companies have already started the process of shifting production though. It’s not like nothing is being done.

Man, it really would have been nice to have at least a couple of months to get started on that process. If only we’d known...

The issue with this is we needed production on this 2 or 3 weeks ago.

It would have been great had we had a team of experts who could have been working on the logistics of this back in December/January.

For those taking it seriously, are you ordering take-out? I get why governments are allowing it (economy) but wouldn’t one infected chef or delivery person infect a ton of people?

We are going to find out that this has gotten bad in many places when the hospitals fill up at this point. NY has more cases now than all but 5 or 6 countries. They are still the only state doing anything close to proper testing.

I really wish tests were available for everyone. For the past 9 days I've had slight general fatigue, a few aches, scratchy throat, and a gentle cough that shows up a couple times per day. I have a pulse oximeter and a thermometer. My temperature went up to 99.0 F one day but has not gone above 98.6 since then. My oxygen levels are between 97 and 99 percent saturation so who knows honestly. I get a cold on average once every year or two and they are usually very mild and last a couple days. I wouldn't be surprised if I am a person that has mild symptoms so honestly I wouldn't be shocked to get a positive test.

A lot of out of state senators also sleep in their offices in the capitol and use the senate gym for shower.
