It's true. I use it as a way of sending my thoughts and well wishes, but prayers do nothing I'm times of illness etc.. that is a completely different story for a completely different day though.

But hey, why not let people send prayers and let's keep science going strong and aggressively to find a cure for this terrible virus.

So, the conscious observer literally collapses the wave function to create the things we see. Yet, prayers are too far fetched for you?

Glad you have all the answers.

Science has failed our world...look at the COVID-19 response. terrible.
Yep prayers do little to nothing for those not listening for Christs voice and are predisposed to rejecting instead expecting lightning bolts from heaven to appear if there were a God that cared.
I have witnessed countless miracles myself and wasn't much of a believer before that, but I was seeking the truth and then I witnessed the miracles. Still was not sure, but after listening to the word, it made a lot more sense... it's easy to dismiss the possibility of a actual God if you are looking for the wrong thing.

Example : a relative was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma which had already moved into her lungs and was given a short time to live so although being an agnostic her whole life and therefore not being a church goer since high school she reluctantly agreed out of desperation and approached the alter during a church revival after I invited her to come and we asked for healing since like most of us she wanted to live , and was anointed with oil and instantly felt a unexplained energy pass through her. She returned for a follow up doctors appointment the next day and he got mad at his staff because he thought they had given him the wrong lab results. Her cancer was completely gone.
She has been cancer free for 13 years. Never misses church and has brought hundreds of lost souls to Christ by her testimony including her children who were hateful towards organized religion prior.
so yeah prayer might not work for you , but you are not the authority on it in your little bubble of discontent.

Maybe I'm not understanding the sequence of events, but it sounds like your relative was cleared of the cancer by a lab test performed before she attended the service ... which isn't to say a miracle can't travel back in time and cure a lab test.

I'm an atheist.

But the action of prayer involves thinking of others and sending positive thoughts to them actually does have benefit for the person sending the prayer.

Never said I had all the answers. I just stated my opinion. I said keep praying, and continue work to get a cure. Let both sides do what they do. Nothing wrong with faith. Nothing wrong with science either.

No the "follow up" appointment was maybe the wrong way to put it. she had known about stage 3 Cancer for some time but had only recently (weeks) been given a timeline of less than a year to live as it had moved into her lungs and possibly more which prompted her going to church where the miracle took place and the next day which I remember distinctively because she called everyone telling them about it...after she went in for a routine lab which was scheduled to discuss what she had decided about trying experimental treatments or just to go into palliative care to make her comfortable before she died.
The Doctor was dumbfounded and had no explanation even reordered labs ct scans and a whole slew of tests which all revealed cancer free.
You have to understand she was hardly able to take care of herself was down to 85lbs before the healing and was a wreck...she had unexplained energy instantly, her face was no longer sunken, she was eating like a horse within a couple of days and was working out with no light headed reactions in fact went crazy fixing up her house and planning for the future.
None of that was in here future based on science.

It's fair to say that a positive attitude really can impact your health. I mean depression has legit health impacts outside of your mental health

To be fair, we're talking medical science, here, which as Doctor McCoy from Star Trek would put it is basically still operating with stone knives and bear skins in this era in spite of many great advances.

For instance, in engineering or physics we can model a system and predict the results with a high degree of accuracy. That's why we landed a man on the moon, even though even a minor error would have flung Apollo 11 in to deep space.

In medicine, however, there's still a lot of trial and error going on. Want a different diagnosis? Look hard enough and you might find a Doctor that will give it.

Something everyone should keep in mind, especially as the health-care system is being greatly taxed is to always be informed to the best of your ability about your own health and healthcare.

And yes, finding hope and sustaining a positive outlook is important to health outcomes no matter how you go about it. At least that's what the scientific studies say. 8-)

Science obviously has its success, but relying on it isn't any more promising than relying on your driving skills to avoid accidents when the other guy is out there too.
Bottom line is unexplained miracles are common among Christians hence the faith and prayers.
You can't explain it.
FYI it wasn't a misdiagnosed condition. She had been to several specialists that all had the same conclusions.
She had cancer and then bam she didn't.
If you wish to believe that she wasn't cured miraculously that's your loss for not accepting what you can't explain.

There's no loss. Science doesn't demand acceptance let alone explanations, that's a hangup of people.

What science does demand is that a theory be testable.

Yea I dont really have a horse in the race, as I'm indifferent on religion. Don't love it, don't hate it. But to each their own and if it helps some people get thru their day/week/life, that all that matters

Not sure what you've been lead to think or who gave you some bs about having to do anything. My take is very simple I've witnessed and experienced actual unexplained results after prayer and that is more than enough reason to trust in God.
nothing is the same from the moment I sought repentance in Christ. I don't need your approval either.
it has nothing to do with religion or meeting expectations of other people.
The church has done a poor job communicating the true gospel in recent years and tbh half the people in the church are mindless idiots who give the religion a bad name.
If you want proof than you will spend your life without it... But when you need proof different result.
I've prayed for people and they still died ,because the never truly lived.

There's no loss. Science doesn't demand acceptance let alone explanations, that's a hangup of people.

What science does demand is that a theory be testable.

Im in the strange category of believing in science and God. Like i think the big bang happened cause the universe is still growing but i also think there had to of been a powerful energy that created it (God).

Im not really religious but to say its a bad thing is very close minded. I still like to go to church to be around good Morales and good hearted people when i can which is a rarity amongst society for the most part.

But even Einsteins theory of relativity just looks like a blue print to me and not a accident.
