Ruggs being the guy wouldn't surprise me in the least given how much Shanahan loves speed and with Goodwin on shaky ground they could use a Tyreke Hill kind of WR.

I'm guessing at 13 they are just going to sit it out and see what lands in their laps because if 3 QBs are taken in the first 12 picks there is going to be a lot of talent board at 13 to choose from. I'd say the likely pick will be a WR but it could easily be a DL, CB, or OT depending on how thing shake out ahead of them because with the 31st pick it does give them some flexibility to pick another need if they don't get it a 13.

Maybe for less than what it would cost to keep Goodwin?

I was just reviewing some recent late first round trades to get a sense of what we could get for 31 and was reminded that the Niners traded the chiefs the pick they used on Chris Jones when they traded up for Joshua Garnett. Ugh. That hurts even wise now, if possible.

They're at about $14-15 million cap space.

Of course the draft will reduce it as well as free agents and such.

So no room to extend Kittle this year, his final rookie year.

But cap is suppose to go way up next year so it probably is good for him to wait, though I'm sure he wouldn't mind getting a big signing bonus.

OTOH, if this coming season is delayed or disrupted, maybe the cap doesn't go up $40 million -- 20%! -- as forecasted.

Verrett and Dontae Johnson coming back. Fine with those moves. I hope to God Johnson never sees the field again, but Verrett at least presents the same sort of low-risk, high-reward proposition he did last year. And maybe now he's finally healthy-ish. If nothing else, I think his presence is probably a decent influence on the younger guys.

Neither moves is a big deal to me. I am okay with Verrett because at one time he was a very good CB and hopefully he can pull a Jimmy Ward and have a good season. Not sure why they would want Johnson back. He is awful. One year where he had enough snaps he was ranked at the bottom of the list by PFF for corners. He has been picked up by several teams and waived. He will most likely never be any better than bad. He could just be a camp body but why not give a late draft pick or undrafted Free Agent a look in camp rather than having Johnson wasting a roster spot.

LOL, I knew you would be celebrating that. The guy they replaced him with might be just as bad but hopefully that person is slated as a backup and Brunskill is given the nod to start

My guess is that there will be an open competition in training camp between Compton, Brunskill, and Garland (if Richburg is healthy enough to play center; if not then Garland slides over to snap the ball), plus a potential draft pick if we snag an interior lineman. Most impressive one in training camp wins the job. Brunskill filled in well last year which should help him in the event of a tie-breaker, but he isn't so established that he will just be handed the job without earning it in competition. The trick is what will happen if we don't have a normal training camp due to Covid-19; not sure what Shanahan does in that case.

Person starting over Brunskill was inexcusable. I'll cringe every time I think about that guy. He probably lost the SB singlehandedly.

Second TE Trey Burton? I’d be just fine with signing him for cheap! Chicago still owes him $4 million

He's worth a look. He's a good athlete who played QB and basketball before settling in at TE in college, with a reputation as a high-character guy who can also contribute on special teams. The knock is that he isn't a great blocker, which is mandatory for a TE in this offense.

That dead money cap hit on Alexander is quite big. Tartt makes sense because he is a FA after 2020 and I'm not sure the 49ers can afford to keep him long-term.

They just restructured Alexander, didn't they? It would be odd to trade him after a restructure. If we lose Ford for less than a relatively high third, I'll be irritated. That's a lot to have given up for a guy for one injury-riddled year and an ineffective playoff run.

 And Jimmy G too.   Then package some picks & trade up for Young. :D

Niners usually do well trading to get people named Young.

Didn't Lynch kinda/sorta debunk this? I thought in his press conference he confirmed that they are actively looking for a trade partner for Goodwin but "the other guys" (Ford, Alexander, Tartt) are guys that "he loves" and is "looking forward to paying with moving forward." If Lynch was being candid, then this is fake news. If Lynch is not being candid, then the tweet is correct and Lynch is the one putting disinformation out there with his press conference. Not sure which one is fake and which one is accurate.
