Mikal Bridges says LeBron would get 90 a game against 86' Celtics (Burning Bridges ?)

Post#1 » by Klayforspicy » Tue Apr 21, 2020 4:58 pm

generation Z is pushing back against this MJ campaign.
I know some collegiate players who refuse to even watch it because anybody could doninate back then.
A whole generation of athletes who have little concept on basketball, but still excel at it. Its amazing.

It's ok to suggest James would've done well or stte. Lebron's great, after all.

But to go to the extreme like that just makes him look disrespectful and under-informed, to put it nicely.

LeBron would thrive in the 80s/90s. He doesn't get into too much altercations in today's game is because he knew he's too important to his team, he doesn't want to get throw out. But if he knows he could get away with dirty **** like most do during that time, he'd be even more intimidating. I'd much rather catch a flying elbow from Robert Parish than LeBron James.

That said, I don't think him scoring 90 a game would benefit his team overall unless he is in some scorching hot zone.

First of all, Mikal Bridges may not be able to play basketball as a professional today if it weren't for the 80s players - including the 86 Celtics - carrying the NBA, elevating the overall skill level and heavily contributing to making the game what it is now.

Second, have some respect for your predecessors. You haven't made the playoffs yet. You're a scrub in the NBA until further notice. Those guys have jewelry. Be quiet.

Third, I can't help but think he feels empowered to say that because of the whiteness of the Celtics. Again, STFU. Bird would smoke you and walk over the ashes without even noticing.

Fourth, the game doesn't work like that. There's a reason no one's even come close to average 50 since Wilt. Teams double. Triple. Whatever. They adjust. Again, maybe that's why your career hasn't taken off.

Fifth, LeBron is not on Jordan's level. We know the deal. Saying that LBJ is the greatest makes your story more relevant because you can then say you played against the greatest, thus elevating your own story. No. Jordan was always the favorite. There's a reason LeBron has been the underdog so often and that's because he wasn't great enough to consistently elevate his team above the rest of the competition despite having more than sufficient help since his first departure from Cleveland. This LeBron GOAT talk is absurd.

People - including LeBron who's classlessly feeding this - are distorting reality to create a false narrative and it's honestly a little annoying after a while.

Pretty sure Bird and McHale would be all over Lebron all game. Boston could even stick Dennis Johnson on him like they did against Magic.

So uh, yeah. 90 a game? please. Maybe 30-35 but nothing more. Plus Lebron definitely wouldn't get anything easy as long as Robert Parish is in the paint. There was no 3 in the key rule back then so he'd be there every time Lebron goes for the rim. Only way Lebron wins in the 80s is if he joins those Celtics, the Pistons, or the Lakers.

LBJ would be awesome in the 1980's of course. I've been a big NBA fan since about 1978, so I can safely say LBJ would have won MVP's in the 80's, just like he did more recently. His defense would have been incredible back then-he would have played much more physically. On offense he's be great, but the spacing would hurt his game some.

I thought Mikal was supposed to be intelligent?!

LeBron is not a volume scorer of Michael Jordan's caliber.

I think I agree with all this except the race angle. I just don't know enough about this Bridges guy to make that leap. I'd say he's displaying garden variety lack of perspective more than anything.

And I don't care about the Jordan v Lebron stuff, but I do think you make a really good point in saying these guys are displaying recency bias. Like, of course, the guy I guarded was better. Makes themselves seem more relevant.

They are indeed distorting reality to feed their own egos.

Hed definitely win on Rockets, Blazers and Philly.
LeBron on Rockets are not losing in that era.

They fail to recognize what Mike would do in this era.
Mikal would not even be allowed to guard MJ, he would be glued to the bench.

Just like Lebrons 8 points vs the Mavs !

Mikal needs to be drug tested . When dude has no offensive game and didnt grow up watching MJ, he needs to realize he is not credible.

I don't know if Bird would smoke LeBron one-on-one, but he definitely would get his and the Celtics would leave LeBron's team in a heap.

Bird won his third consecutive MVP in 1986 and the Celtics that year were one of the best teams in NBA history. They were unreal.

How are yall even comparing eras ? So different !

Those guys were juggernauts and played high minutes and a lot of games. They even had old technology , training staffs . More rough with each other , hand check, defense , etc

Guys are resting these days with top of the line technology, staff, etc . High pace offense , and tic tac fouls !

Jordan would put up 50 ppg , and Lebron would be begging him to team up

His statement shows some ignorance for the history of the game. Prime/Peak LeBron would be the best player in the 80s, but he won't be a better scorer than he is today. The strongest aspect of his scoring is finishing in the paint. That's going to be much tougher against the Celtics when he doesn't have great shooters to spread the floor and the rules allow the Celtics to camp in the paint and wait for him.

Why the defense of the 80's and early 90's gets conflated with the defense of the late 90's and early 00's, i will never understand. The 80's played at a faster pace than the break neck one that we have today, with worse athletes and much, much poorer defensive strategy.

Ya, Lebron would dominate

Are y'all seriously debating the merits of this, someone claiming a player would average 90 a game  You think this claim warrants a serious rebuttal?

Oh he definitely wouldn't "smoke" LeBron

I was referring to Bridges.
