That’s awesome. It’s nice to see people doing things to help the unfortunate. That’s why every streaming show I watch of Glen Phillips I contribute what I can as he always does it for a charity, except when on Stageit. And my other friend does it because he’s a musician so he’s lost all income. And my sister who owns a restaurant, a guy who plays there has been doing shows and all money goes to workers who have lost income and not just for my sister’s place. He plays all around. My sister even bumped up pay as she does take out. No good deed is too small. Which disappoints me to see so many selfish people when I have to go out. So it goes.

With the White House going on an offensive to blame a Chinese lab for this outbreak, lost in the mix is this Newsweek piece from last week. In recent years, "the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the organization led by Dr. Fauci, funded scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and other institutions for work on gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses." Second phase began last year, and "According to Richard Ebright, an infectious disease expert at Rutgers University, the project description refers to experiments that would enhance the ability of bat coronavirus to infect human cells and laboratory animals using techniques of genetic engineering."

The article goes on to explain that the National Institute of health has supported similar studies in Chinese labs for 10+ years despite warnings from scientists who feared a pandemic due to accidental release. In 2014 all studies were halted under pressure from the Obama administration, but were restarted in 2017 with less transparency than ever.

In other words, it sounds like our country was paying Chinese scientists, in multiple locations, to genetically engineer a virus like Sars-Cov-2, while the White House went out of it's way to antagonize relations with China. Lots of conspiracy theories to be had here.

My home country is making a mockery of itself once again.

You may or may not agree with the idea (or its execution). What the article is not saying is that the governing party took advantage of this to release several of their own people who had been jailed in the last few years for acts of corruption in the early 2010's. Lovely.

As I warned about weeks ago in this thread:

https://dgalerts.docguide.com/further-studies-raise-safety-concerns-about-use-hydroxychloroquine-covid-19?nl_ref=newsletter&pk_campaign=newsletter&nl_eventid=40327&nl_campaignid=3718&pw_siteID=25&ncov_site=covid-19&MemberID=103021761

It is beyond outrageous & unspeakably dangerous that Trump to this day indescribably ignorantly advocates its use. It makes my head explode when non-medical people who could not find their asses with both hands spew & advocate junk science.

This is a time for TRUTH & HUMILITY & KNOWLEDGE!

Who says Georgia isn't taking this pandemic seriously?

This is quite inspiring, but also deeply weird that it was necessary. The NHS is fundamentally a social insurance model where the government funds and operates hospitals to ensure that everyone has access to health care. The idea that they could "run out of money" and need some dude to hold fundraisers to meet that gap should be as weird to British people as the idea of needing to hold charity fundraisers to ensure Medicare doesn't run out of funds should be in the US.

Boris Johnson (and other prime ministers before him) had been reducing funding for the NHS for a while. You can find some info here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/30/coronavirus-crisis-tories-cuts

I'd be more bothered by this if those driving tests weren't already beyond easy. It's a joke to get a license in this country.

That's not what I meant. But go ahead, let's believe that.

Let me guess... You are one of the armchair scientists that calls this the "Chinese virus"?
