Petergrifindor wrote:The ending of Episode 7 is the most revealing segment in the documentary, when they ask him if he thinks his intensity has come at a price of being a nice guy.

The man clearly explains why he is how he is, and he appears to be conscious that the same traits that propelled him to achieve the highest level anybody has achieved in basketball, also had a price. The other side of the coin, the "I have a competition problem", the thing that make him choke up at the end of the episode thinking he might not have been always a nice person. You can tell it bothers him.

But he couldn't help it or switch it off.

Anyway the guy is all heart and fire. He really couldn't have made it in other way. In the end we are who we are.

I was thinking about this too. It's like knew he had to be like that to be the GOAT but wishes he didn't have to.

I am legit laughing out loud. There are like 3 or 4 different memes in a span of 60 seconds.

Nothing to feel bad about. Mj already said Payton was the defender that gave him the most problems. You're going to see that quote interview around in the coming days along with the stats of Payton actually slowing him down. The documentary gives MJ the final word on everything but it's not all gospel. People clowning Payton on twitter are making fools of themselves

That's been me pretty much every episode so far. I pause what feels like every 45 second to process certain things and then talk to my wife about it. Every Sunday, this starts at 8 PM my time, so normal run it'd end at 10 PM. I don't finish until 10:30 or later every week.

Might be BS (didn't bother googling) might explain the eyes

i grew up around a lot of Africans from sudan and stuff, quite a few of them had similar eyes, so i can believe it's pretty common

edit: the director said on jalen and jacoby that larry bird at the end of episode 9 is gonna say something that might melt the internet....can't wait

Came off as extremely sensitive in these episodes. Feel sorry about what happened to his dad but he seemed to take everything the wrong way and by all accounts seems to be a massive dick to the majority of people around him.

People seem to gravitate to that "alpha dog" bull though so the fact that he was a winner sweeps everything else under the rug.

Funny because I watched the entire Sonics/Bulls series during this lockdown. GP very underrated.

Not only that the NBA also fined Jordan for wearing the now iconic Concord Air Jordans because they considered them a white sneaker colorway and he had to wear black, but Nike didn't have the black XIs ready until I think a few games later.

You can see early in the series he's wearing the white/black concords (Nick Anderson ironically is also wearing Air Jordans, but the older X model)

The other useless bit of trivia if you want it, the black Air Jordans still have the number 45 on the back even though Jordan had switched his jersey number back to 23 by that point.

I gotta say one thing that is becoming clear form this documentary is Jordan's parents were aces. Great people. So crappy what happen to his dad.
The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

Also the Magic will always be my squad but the Supersonics were always my West squad. Happy as a pig in mud watching both those teams in the 90s in episode 8. Bring back the damn Sonics already. It's embarrassing.

Michael’s sister, Deloris, wrote a book where she says her father took her virginity and when she told her mom (when she was 16) she said she was going to send her away to a school.

Also claimed James Jordan beat her mom. Knocked her out cold.

There’s a quick clip of it in one of the earlier episodes where James tells Michael to “go inside with the rest of the women”. Supposedly James put down Michael, his youngest son, a lot.

She said that’s where his insane drive comes from. It’s not just trying to please his dad. It’s saying “**** you, you were wrong!” as well.
Honestly I’m more inclined to believe the parents were abusive. Someone like MJ isn’t born from normal circumstances. He’s not normal and probably has MAJOR mental issues. Just happens that those mental issues are what made him so great. Killer instinct. Ridiculous drive. Never felt pressure. And not afraid to say anything to anyone.
