Deni's team didn't even really let him play in Euroleague. He only averaged 14 mins per game and shot 43/27/56 slashes. His 14 mpg makes him the 12th man on the roster. I think it really says something that his team didn't trust him when the games actually mattered.

All his good games were in the Israeli league and back in 2017 Fran Raschilla ranks it 13th best league in the world. People have been knocking the knocking the league LaMelo was in and this one is ranked even lower than the NBL.

At least Hayes played in Eurocup, which is the third best league in the world and got to play major minutes. He was on the worst team in the league, but he was their best player and played his best ball as the competition got tougher. I just see that translating way more than some guy that couldn't get on the court when it mattered.

How is this kid not in the top 15? His skills are :eek2:

The little bit I am learning about him. His handle needs work. He is also 23 and plays againsty inferior competition. But those measurements and that shot. Sign me up

Is he related with Westchester Knicks coach Derrick Alston? Size and range look interesting.

Yes, that's his dad.

So we will have the inside track on this kid. Not knowing anything and basing it all from that highlight reel. I hope we take him in the second round.

Avdija has no business being a lotto pick so I really hope Knicks aren't the team that wastes their pick on him. Even at 27 I would maybe consider him but definitely not sold on him over some of the other options that may be available there.

Tyler Dorsey is someone that washed out of the NBA and he was getting major minutes on Deni's team and was stinking up the joint. Dorsey was shooting sub 40's from the field and you're telling me this kid couldn't beat out that guy? He's getting over mocked because everyone doesn't want to miss out on the next Luka. Idk if he's not a lottery pick but drafting him in the top 10 would make me nervous.

Right good point about Hayes...I believe he shot 39% from three during the Eurocup, if true that is a nice sign or the future.

The German league he plays in isn't half bad either. It certainly ranks higher than the Israeli league. Outside of Luka, I can't really think of another euro with as much tape as we have on Hayes. Even KP really only had a couple games on youtube and they were all high school gyms on bad cameras. Hayes games are like full HD and look great.

My concerns w/ Haliburton are:
1) he doesn't get to the rim much
2) has a very low release on his 3PT shot (FT's and mid-range are fine, much higher release, just the 3PTer); against bigger, faster NBA players, it'll be harder to get the shot off
3) limited ability to create his own shot (most of his 3's were spotting up)

These are all concerns but the first two are based on his physical conditioning. He doesn’t go to the rim because he isn’t strong enough to finish through contact. He’s said the reason his shot started so low was because he was a weakWe kid and had to start low to use his whole body to shoot. What’s noticeable is that well he can shoot, and his mechanic isn’t completely destroyed.

For your third point, yeah he likely won’t be that type of player. I think he is a legit floor general and can C&S the 3. Even when he gets stronger it will likely make more sense for him to post up smaller guards to shoot over them, than to try and create his own shot on the perimeter.

Valid concerns but I wouldn’t expect him to be a scorer for the Knicks especially playing next to RJ. he will probably play more of an off ball role as a shooter but also be a facilitator

It’s like Having Pablo prigioni reborn in a more athletic body with enhanced features

That’s a good comp. People forget Pablo, but if he had been younger he would have been the teams starting PG and would probably still be here. Now imagine he was 6’5 doing what he did.

Yeah Pablo was great. high percentage spot up three point shooter, excellent pick and roll player that could pull off flashy passes when he wanted and could defend.

Of course hailburton is a better scorer, more size, more atheltic but I envision hailburton playing this similar type of role

The only PG I can think of from the top of my head to play in the german league and play in the NBA was dennis schroder, his stats seem somewhat comparable to hayes coming out of that league and he was the 17th pick in 2013. also schroder was good in the nike hoop summit that year. Side by side although their games are much different I'm inclined to say schroder looked like a better PG prospect. But he was still somewhat raw and it took him 4 seasons before he broke out to be a low end starter or high end backup, which I'd be happy to get with hayes

Our new assistant Walt perinin is going to have the most influence on this pick?

If so this article has his best picks

-27th pick/ rudy Gobert
-13th pick/ Donovan Mitchell
-3rd pick/ Deron Williams
-9th pick/ gordan Hayward
-47th pick/ Paul Milsap
-23rd pick / Rodney hood
-34th pick / cj miles
-14th pick / Ronnie Brewer
-3rd pick / enes Kanter
-47th pick / mo Williams

That’s not a bad resume at all

It'll be interesting to see whether the FO values facilitating or scoring in a PG. need another scorer to pair with RJ.

I'm still holding out hope we land top-2 and get 1 of Ball or Edwards

He's currently projected to go undrafted so it's quite possible that even if he's not drafted that he'll end up with the Knicks.

That would be Ball, maybe Hayes (tho he doesn't project to be a big-time scorer)

Haliburton is a facilitator/spot-shooter rather than a scorer

Cole is a scorer but not an advanced facilitator
