I agree and also would say anything dessert like shouldn't be on there like kringle, ice cream, or baklava.

I don't know about that. If almost all U.S. ice cream was made in Racine by one company, I think ice cream would be a fair inclusion. Kringle ain't that diverse.

But are you eating them on their own?

No?

Then they're not a snack. They're a form of condiment. You're eating them to enhance the taste of your tortilla chips or your carrots.

If you want to rephrase as "chips and guac," then perhaps that could be a reasonable compromise. But then YMMV on what kinds of chips? What's in your guac?

That doesn't even begin to delve into the variety of kinds of dips that could fall under that category.

I hear you. I'm coming from the angle of me being hungry and walking into the kitchen. I see a jar of salsa or that store bought guac, I grab some tortilla chips, and I head to the couch to snack. The chip and the dip are intertwined - I would never eat the tortilla chip by itself nor the dip by itself.

Homemade guacamole? Shouldn't count. Buffalo chicken dip? That's an appetizer, shouldn't count. Hummus and pita chips? Absolutely a snack. Pretzels and cheese spread? Snack. Chips and french onion dip? Snack. Cheese and crackers? Snack.

I think snacks can require some light assembly of no more than 2 ingredients (placing cheese on a cracker, spreading peanut butter on a piece of celery, dipping a chip into dip). If you're actually cooking something (heating, mixing, chopping, etc.) then you've left snack territory and are into appetizers.

If a snack includes 2 components then maybe we can specify one of them and assume the most generic version of the other.

I can get behind that concept. I would totally eat tortilla chips on their own, though, as their own snack, especially if they're quality tortilla chips.

By the way, I'm totally making some guac tonight. If you're looking for a super easy and totally delicious recipe:

Salty

Salted in shell peanuts. Ideal for at the ballpark or around the campfire. Great with an icy cold beer.

I'd lean toward Snickers (and eat them) as well. A few days ago, I would have given the edge to Rice Crispy Treats, but I ate a whole box of them (that few days ago) and since then, the thought of them makes me want to hurl.

Hot corn nuts gets my vote for the spicy category.
