Top-Seeded Teams Discussing Ways To Reproduce Home-Court Advantage In Bubble Scenario

Executives from top-seeded teams are having internal discussions over ways to reproduce some form of home-court advantage if and when the season resumes in Orlando.

Teams are reportedly sharing ideas with each other in replicating home-court advantage, which include: the higher-seeded team receiving the first possession of the second, third, and fourth quarter, the higher seed designating one player who can get called for seven fouls, or the higher seed receiving an extra coach's challenge, among other ideas.

"I do think the NBA cares about it. I do not think it's a top priority for them," said one Eastern Conference executive.

The NBA's competition committee did not discuss the topic of implementing home-court advantage during their Tuesday meeting.

League executives also worried about whether these attempts could be seen as too gimmicky and compromise the legitimacy of this season's champion.

This is garbage.

Give the top-seeded teams all the byes you want in what is now a tournament, but do NOT mess with the game once you walk on the court.


I also doubt the reporting here. I would not want to "win" a single game unless it was played straight-up and no true champion would either. This smells like garbage from start to finish.

This is nothing more than a way for Silver & Co. to try out new ideas they may want to implement down the road.

The game already remotely resembles what I grew up watching, so continuing to try and dumb the game down is no surprise.

Taking asterisk to a whole new label. Doesn't the road team have home court advantage to when the team goes back home?. The way the piece is written makes it look that only top teams will get the benefit.

Leave the game as is. If they want a home court advantage feel, then they should just decorate the arena with appropriate team logo and colors. Even put the playoff t-shirts on the seats.

Ultimately its usually the cheering fans that make the difference, so its hard to replace that regardless.

Also, good teams know how to win at home and on the road.
