It's also hard comparing assists now to previous eras, because the scoring is up so much right now. If John Stockton were playing today, he'd be getting 15 a game.

It's all about opportunity. Before the all star break he was used as a shooting guard/pure scorer. After the all star break he was a lead guard and was at 4.5 assists. When Lavine went down and Coby became THE lead guard (last 5 games) Coby was averaging 6 assists (and 2.0 a/to ratio)

He's shown a small snippet of the potential that is there. He just needs to be properly utilized.

Yea and it effing blows that the league had to shutdown when he was in the middle of a strong run

Exactly why I want the bulls to have a chance to continue to play. I want to see what we have with Coby before going into the off season

Nah. Our coaching situation is way too awkward. So we have Jimbo coach the last 8 or so games? Or a lame duck interim?

Maybe wait and evaluate this season but Coby isnt magically going to avg 6 assists from yr 1.
This is a guy that has never professionally trained as a pg and strictly played as a shooting guard.
I dont think his iq is that high enough and he is more of a Lavine replacement at a cost controlled contract.

Luckily, the Bulls can solve their playmaking problems by signing FVV if they are willing to spend money and sacrifice max slot.
Didnt realize he was a two way player given his tiny stature but he must have been learning from Mr Lowry.
A lineup of FVV,Lavine,OPJ,Lauri is the best way you can assemble without allstars. They are all decent players you can trade them for disgruntled stars later as long as they dont hand out ludicrous contracts.
I think Gafford is good enough to be the starting center and would package injury prone Hutch/Carter/pick for a blue chip prospect like Issac.
Lamelo will be a future superstar Bull. Book it. Lavar for president!

I really don't understand the flack Coby gets on this board. He spent 1 season in college in a fairly defined role.
That says nothing of his NBA potential. He's a scoring G sure, but he's far to early into his NBA career to make assumptions on his assist per game and even more so to determine his abilities and BB IQ.

Let the man play PG and develop under a good coach before we make assumptions. Lauri looked like he was going to be a stud as a rookie and then flopped badly.

Players need coaching, development and playing time.

People love to cite basketball IQ as if they have any idea of how to properly judge OR quantify it.

So now we have to wait until late October for the draft? Bummer.

Hadn't seen that posted, but it wouldn't bother me. Gives us more time for new FO to get it's sh*t together and for prospects to work on their game/bodies and a chance to evaluate potential picks.

So with the news that the NBA appears to be back, it confirms that we end up with the 7th worst record in the league. For those that have forgotten, here are the lottery odds that went into effect last year. The odds are that we are looking at a pick between 7-9.

I just want to say that the thread title was made 4 games into the season.

7th odds now locked in. This is destiny.

Do we think that the revised playoff approach will impact lottery odds?

Your literally handcuffing the team by playing White 35mpg. Cant do that when we have bigs drafted and needs development. What makes you think White will help their development when they need a leader someone like CP3?

Not making assumptions. Some has it from day1 or you dont. Then just develop him slowly. No need to hand the entire franchise to an unproven player.

IDK if I agree. While I would definitely say that if we had a better player than Coby to start at PG, we should start him. But, going out and getting a guy at the tail end of his career and not start Coby so that Lauri and WCJ could get get a few better shots a game seems like walking up the down escalator.

I’d sum it up as off-the-ball activity and efficiency.

It takes more IQ to foresee plays without the ball in your hand, on both ends. You read the play, you make adjustments and make use of every fundamental in the tool-box; using screens, getting open, give and go, trap defense, etc.

Zach’s got none of that. Super low IQ. You take him in or out the roster, and very little changes, because he basically doesn’t play system ball. Give him the ball and he tries to score. Matchup against him, he focuses 1-on-1. I can’t think of any thing else to describe his overall game.

Jimmy Butler for example? Fairly high IQ. I don’t like his ball-stopping and iso, but I think most of it stemmed from a mediocre shooting game, which doesn’t have as much to do with IQ.

Luka, Klay, Kawhi and Curry? IQ and skill off the charts. Dump these guys’ athleticism and they’re still good NBA players.

Remove Zach’s elite athleticism (make him average) and I don’t think he makes it to the NBA.

Playing Coby 35 minutes a night doesn't handcuff anything. If you draft a guy you need to have a plan in place to develop him and give him consistent playing time in the role he will serve in your franchises future.

I don't understand the logic of drafting a guy, not playing him and then expecting him to get better.

Looks like the Bulls will now pick anywhere between 1-8.

The Warriors, Cavaliers, Timberwolves, Hawks, Pistons, Knicks, Bulls, and Hornets will likely be locked into the top eight lottery slots, a source tells Hoops Rumors. The order within the top eight has yet to be determined, but the structure means the Wizards couldn’t go 0-8 this summer when the season resumes and land a better position in the lottery than those teams that won’t be playing.

I know there is not a lot of star talent in this draft or it seems, but I am very intrigued by the wings, some versatile 4/5's that can defend, and combo guards that will be going in late 1st to mid 2nd. I think some will be busts and many will be better than top of order picks. These are no order to my preference. I did put * on some players I think are underrated and will do well in some type of role with NBA. That does not mean others I am not fan of, but just players that stand out to me.

PF's/C

1) Xavier Tillman (really like him for 4/5, bench player)*
2) Jalen Smith (I'm a big fan of his in today's game - 3 point shooting, block shot ability, and pick-n-roll)*
3) Mamadi Diakite (to me, Taj Like)*
4) Isaiah Stewart (built and can board)
5) Enouch (Louisville, rebounder)

SF's
1) Devin Vassell *
2) Aaron Nesmith*
3) Saddiq Bey*
4) Josh Green (not sure on how I feel about his game)
5) Desmond Bane (to me underrated, seems high IQ, solid d, good shooter, just solid player)*
6) Malik Fitts (I think he will be a steal wherever is drafted if in 2nd). *

CG's/Pg's/Sg's

1) Nico Mannion - seems to be sliding down, but would be a good pick later in first
2) Kira Lewis (I'm not a big fan of pick until later first).
3) Maxey (not my favorite)
4) Bolmaro
5) Maledon (I like his game)*
6) Dosunmu
7) Peyton Pritchard (I like his game and if available in 2nd, really like his, Diakite, Fitts, Tillman, or something similar)*
8) Tyrell Terry
9) Davonte graham undersized but cerebral pg pick (Cassius Winston - can shoot, smart, and lead).*
10) Ramsey TT (interesting prospect - 6'4 and built, can shoot from 3, athletic, but not a good ft shooter).
11) *Markus Howard (I think he has some instant off bench type scorer). Isaiah Thomas (the current not HOF, Abdul-Rauf type player at max).

Return to Chicago Bulls
