John Oliver talked about Camden NJ as a prior example of a police force being disbanded and reformed under a new set of guiding principles and all officers having to reapply for positions under those guidelines. I’m not familiar with the details, but it certainly seems worth considering for a number of these forces where a top to bottom change of culture is required.

Was this under Corey Booker's watch? I can't wait to watch it later.

Great interview about policing and how to make better use of that money. Alex Vitale is a Brooklyn College professor who joins Seder to discuss law enforcement reform and his book The End of Policing. He makes the great point that we've asked law enforcement to address too many of society's problems like the mentally ill and homeless people, like street gangs, etc., and that we need to re-allocate these resources so that we don't end up with a military style response to each of our problems.

One Florida police organization has said it will re-hire those very officers accused of misconduct....
