I'm telling folks that it's not going to play well with a mostly black league that they have to stay in Orlando's Disney World while the staff and citizens generally roam free, to play out TV contracts. Inviting 22 teams was a ridiculous move to begin with. I understand why they thought they should do it, but it's still ridiculous.

The bubble sounds like a safer environment many times over than the one I still work in. You can't reduce the risk to zero, and many people in this new economy have had to adjust to worse circumstances than living in Disney World for a few months.

Disney workers have not been told to quarantine on campus, according to Eric Clinton, president of Disney’s labor union, United Here Local 362, which represents custodians and ride operators. Clinton told NBC Sports that it was “unlikely” that staffers would be subject to daily testing and quarantine measures like NBA players and team staffers.

This is universally stupid! Have the NBA ante up the $ to keep them there if that's what it takes. Rotate staff over time, etc.

This is a dumb report. Basically this will be a non issue very shortly. Its simple, the NBA is likely being aggressive with the return, so that they don't void or have to refund millions of dollars in contracts they have with TV stations, advertisers etc. Their contracts likely have stipulations where the contract is void or moneys are owed back, if a certain number of games are not played. If they can pull off a regular playoffs, and they already got most of the season in, I doubt it would trigger too much in refunds.

If players don't play, that will immediately affect how much they get paid, due to how much money the NBA will lose. As soon as players get a "you do not have to play, however, you will get docked $x", they will reconsider and play. Only few players like Carmelo, who can afford to sit and have no value in playing would stay back.

I really doubt nba players are dying to WATCH games. They want to go out into public. They're social creatures.

I totally understand the complaint about Disney workers not being tested/quarantined. Problem is it seems like the more vocal members want to open it up more.

Thought the extended regular season was a total money grab. Complicates it too much. You could've done playoffs in 6 weeks in a bubble. Instead this is a 3 month process for some reason. Huge risk of quarantine fatigue by the time CF and Finals come around.

I'm shocked to learn that as of now the NBA isn't using it's own employees for food, etc., who would be in the bubble, that Disney employees would come and go in and out of the bubble, and that they would not be tested...!

People making a case about having to work and sports returning at some point likely don't body up against fellow employees as part of the job, and likely have some PPE measures in place. These are not comparable situations.

And it's not only about Kyrie. He's the spearhead, but many more players are having broader issues with the return. The players themselves didn't get a vote, only their reps did, and it seems that contrarian voices to those of the stars who insist on playing are growing:

I imagine this affects alternate players who are taking a risk but don't have anywhere near the financial security, assistant coaches and team personnel in similar situations who have young kids or compromised families to deal with. I think the NBA is so intent on going ahead that it figured if the big ticket details were set in place, the smaller details would eventually get ironed out. They may yet, but it turns out other players asserting their voices and concerns as well the other issues mentioned are not so small details after all.
