Is it sad that I hear about the candidates and think "there must be something wrong with them if they want THIS job"?

Troy Weaver is respected and very good at his job. Great talent evaluator. His time has come

I did not think Weaver would be interested, but maybe Ed is really relinquishing some of his decision making in the future. Weaver is at least a legitimate candidate from a franchise who has historically drafted well and been able to leverage assets in trades fairly well.

Woj is now saying there are two other final candidates in Hughes from LAC and Peterson from NJ. At least they all come from well thought out organizations. The question is how involved they have personally been in the major moves. Rumor is Weaver has been very involved and would be thought of as a very good hire.

Of the three reported candidates, I would probably prefer Weaver, who has played a big part in building (and rebuilding) a team in a smaller market.

Do the pistons actually get this one right?? I like what I’ve read and heard about Weaver. Surprised he’s interested.

Weaver would be my pick as well, but I think it will be Hughes as he has connections to Michigan and the Pistons.

Agree. But they made up for it in trading George to LAC. That was the NBA version Herschel Walker to Minnesota. And the Thunder were the Cowboys. They killed it. Trade of the year.

Begley is saying the Pistons are interested in J.R. Holden and Mike Dunleavy Jr. as options for the assistant GM opening too.

Saw that as well. Would be interesting if they went after not one, but two members of the Nets front office in Peterson (GM) and Holden (Asst. GM). Tells you how highly Sean Marks is regarded.

So we're looking to hire a "GM" who will have no autonomy regarding the coach, no autonomy regarding even his first assistant, and will be reporting to not one, but two superiors.

Sounds like a great gig. They must be beating down the door.

It might not matter a whole lot if Pistons are offering real GM money

Maybe the idea is for us to hire a dude that will essentially replace Ed.

Hope that's the case.
Which would open the door for Chauncey to accept the assistant job with the idea for him to take over the GM job

Not overly impressed with OKC's drafting in recent years, but he's as qualified a candidate as there was for this job. Wish him well & cross your fingers.

We already have an assistant GM, Troy Weaver. I'll believe he's a real GM when Stepanski acts more like a "senior advisor" and less like an NBA GM.
