I think the obvious answer is he was reporting private health information and a lot of people thought he crossed a line. This isn't saying a guy that got drafted early. These are related to individuals health information and, though unlikely, depending on the root of his source, could be have HIPPA issues to deal with.

Not sure I'd use the word "muzzle" but I also don't think the two are scenarios are mutually exclusive. I've just found his messaging throughout the past three months to be very odd. Initially treating every positive test like breaking July 1st news followed by radio silence on positive tests when it's clear the league is trying like hell to make back money, the hit piece on Kyrie "the Disrupter" (& subsequent walk-back), the news of non bubble participants couched with personal excuses that we don't really have any business knowing. Woj's interests are aligned with ESPN & the NBA but he's also trying to maintain his agent/player relationships.

Mike Malone had Covid. Woj is clearly close with Malone & Nuggets management. Why didn't he out Malone?

I say picking up those options would actually help them tank vs spending that on good players. Honestly if they were managed correctly I wouldn't be too down on their future because they do have a decent cache of picks and space but I don't know how anyone could trust they will use it wisely.

Unlikely, but if you have a Sterling situation where Dolan reluctantly sells the team for whatever reason, all of a sudden they are the KNICKS!!! Number 1 pick and 2 max guys then are the 2022 version of the Clippers.

Dolan is the easy scapegoat but I think the biggest problem with the Knicks has been Steve Mills and he was fired this year. Mills had been there since 2003. Left in 2009 and returned in 2013 (the only years when the Knicks were actually good). He came back and they went from 54 wins to 17 wins in two seasons.

You can absolutely be sued for name-dropping a medical diagnosis without that person's consent though. It really is amazing that Woj needs to be told that's a big no-no.

You guys should be mad at Shams. He's named far more players who tested positive than Woj.

Are you sure? I'm not a doctor nor a lawyer, but I thought HIPPA only applied to those with access to medical information. If Gobert's agent says "Yeah, Rudy confirmed he got the 'vid" and Woj reports it, I don't think there is a legal issue. Definite ethical issues though.

Correct. Woj hasn't done anything legally wrong, unless he himself broke into the hospital and stole the medical records.

Which would make him a very dedicated reporter.

Not being able to get into the country wasn't an obstacle I considered. I wonder how many NBA players are outside America right now.

All the positive tests actually make me far more concerned for next season outside the bubble than it does for resuming this one.

Also the NFL is going to be a **** show with guys testing positive weekly.

Yeah, next season will be cancelled. That’s why finishing this season is so important.

Imagine we’ve seen giannis last time in a bucks jersey if this season and next are cancelled.

The positive tests should be expected, it doesn't mean the bubble cannot and will not work. Obviously they need to screen out the asymptomatic carriers first and if you did the antibodies test I'd imagine you'd find even more NBA players that already had it.

You can sue anyone for any reason. You can’t win those suits if they are without basis though. Suing a journalist for reporting news is a baseless suit.

The perfect solution to the whole thing is to stop the charade that they care and just let guys play with COVID if they feel well enough. If they feel too sick, let them sit. Stop testing. Don’t let old, at risk people around the players. Just let them do their thing. Boom. We have basketball next month and next year.

I doubt it gets cancelled but teams are going to lose guys for weeks at a time. Probably need to create a CovidIR or expand rosters to deal with it.

For all the talk about safety in the bubble I'd say for the majority of guys the lives they live outside the bubble puts them at far more risk.

Chuck Diesel wrote:Right. But the “lives lived outside the bubble“ also put the guys inside the bubble at risk who’ve been responsible. Coupled with the disaster zone that is Florida, the risk is magnified for everyone.
That's why they are testing and isolating now before entering.

Jesus. This is about as horrifying a take as I have seen here. Who cares if you spread a deadly pandemic?

This was discussed at the time. Thought was an agent or two probably got pissed off at him naming people who were ill with the virus, making them look bad AND sharing private medical info, and told him to knock it off.
