Too late now, also I figure logistics play a big part. Disney owns ESPN/ABC, so they seem to make sense, plus they have everything nearby. Europe doesn't make sense, given at the time they weren't necessarily doing better, remember this has been in the works for months, back then Europe numbers weren't really better than Florida, who had few cases early on, it's really gotten much worse of late, probably due to the reopening of places. Not sure how it is in other parts of FL, but in Miami, for the most part people seems to be pretty responsible, wearing masks, but at my gym I do see some people not practicing any social distancing, at my job I have seen some people also acting irresponsibly, went to a Home Depot were a stupid lady goes in despite washing her hands next to a sign that said masks are mandatory (though I suppose its pretty easy to social distance in there). I have heard that in Miami Beach though around curbside drinking areas, people are not practicing social distancing at all.

I've been making fun of the disaster that is the FL government, but I will say it was smart to partner with Disney. Anyone who has visited their parks can vouch that it's a first class operation. Their staff is very well trained and professional (it's actually almost shocking how friendly and helpful every single "cast member" is at Disney parks/properties).

If I had to pick an organization that might be able to pull something like this off Disney would be near the top of the list.

OK there's a threshold - and @ what I was expecting when testing happened--

200 NHL players tested and 11 have it-

That's @ 10% rate.

I totally expect that when NBA testing, I say closer to 15%

That's not very daunting, only a 10% to catch something.

That's doesn't mean you have a 90% chance of not catching it, does it?

Why would these countries risk their publics health so NBA can play some games?

whats the risk?? you realise all big European football leagues have already restarted? Even Champions league is getting rescheduled and getting a restart. There already looking to add fans into the stadiums again. So only if these NBA teams come over here and bring corona with them, which is highly unlickely, i dont see the issue.

That's the thing. Nobody is being forced. No one has to go to Orlando if they want to sit out for the protests. The ones who don't want to play can't turn it around and force everyone else to sit. That's the irony of the situation here

They are docking pay for anyone who doesn’t play. So yeah, they are forcing black people to risk their Health and do it in Florida where it is a **** show.

You don't seem to get what the word "force" means, do you.

I dont think you are using the word docking in its proper context.

Well someone earlier pointed out utah still has the facilities from the winter games a few years back which would have given then more room, more courts, and certainly better weather while in a state doing better with corona. Sure, I doubt nba players are jumping for joy over utah, but it's a start. I'm not sure where else as frankly I don't know anything at all about disney world. And why do they need hotels large enough for 30k people? Seems excessive.

Seems like the obvious choice would be somewhere in Canada.

I almost couldn't tell if this was a joke. Where in Canada specifically?

Prince Edward Island. No cases since April 28th. 10,000 tests total, 27 total cases since the start. Couldn't be an easier choice. U of PEI courts. EST time zone. The island is a bubble. Stage everyone in NB then bring them all over. They can eat Lobster every day.
How's that?

Maybe the NHL will get wise.

I’ve never been to PEI, but no offense, I doubt they have the facilities necessary to accommodate something of this caliber?

And all of that, for an NBA attempting to finish its season at Disney in Orlando, is problematic, experts say.

“Extremely concerning,” says Zachary Binney, an epidemiologist at Emory University.

“Absolutely,” says Bill Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University.

“Of course, they should be concerned about case numbers around where they’re trying to build their bubble,” says Jared Baeten, an epidemiology professor at the University of Washington.

“Yes,” says Kathleen Bachynski, a public health professor at Muhlenberg College. “And that’s because a true bubble is just really, really hard to create.”

U PEI obviously has a court. There are colleges as well. There are no fans so capacity doesn't matter. Charlottetown obviously has hotels and facilities and so does Summerside. It has a population of 160k which is more than Disney supports and the island is a tourist haven. You could walk around the cities and entire Island which is not at all small, once there since there is no virus and it actually IS a bubble with the bridge closed/monitored. I would say you doubt wrong and would have to be more safe by a long-shot.

There's also other places out east doing incredibly well but not the same kind of isolation, and Vancouver island but I'm not sure if that has no risk and haven't kept up on it.

The only fault with the NBA is not having a plan B. Now they have to hope that the bubble can contain what's happening outside, where Florida just reported 5508 cases today with a 15.91% positivity rate and 36k tests done.

Im sure that the spike in Florida had nothing to do with the droves of people that fled places like NY and NJ, along with the daily gatherings that people call protests that have been taking place for nearly two months. Nah, it’s that “disaster” of a governor.

Btw, despite the numbers going up, our healthcare system has not been overwhelmed, which is literally the only reason these numbers matter at all. Additionally, judging the success or failure of a state in dealing with the virus based on cumulative numbers, where .004 of the state’s population has tested positive, with a .03 death rate of those .004, is the epitome of taking data and having it say whatever you want it to say.

Yes, most cases on the East coast came from New York. However, New York was more or less blindsided by this as the 1st area impacted. Florida’s horrible governor (and many other conservative governors) watched what happened in New York and are repeating those same mistakes despite clear consequences.

Hospitalizations and Deaths always lag behind spikes in cases. We can hope and pray that Florida will be miraculously spared from this trend we’ve seen around the world but unfortunately miracles are inherently unlikely.

Personally if I played or coached for any team other than the top 4 in each conference And I was financially stable, I would stay home instead of exposing myself and my family to the professional negligence of Florida’s leadership.

But what basis do you have to support the idea that “Florida’s horrible governor” and “many other conservative governors” are horrible when the WORST states for this are NY, NJ, Illinois, California, and Massachusetts—ALL Democrat “blue” states. Those guys just got “blindsided” but Florida and “other conservative” states are the bad guys? Please. Please. So tired of the partisan BS.

It’s not partisan BS.

Like I said, they were blindsided because their outbreaks were well underway in March before there was adequate testing or a clear understanding of the virus, particularly in NYC, Boston and Jersey. These outbreaks largely stemmed from the international airports in those cities and an inability to test and trace cases.

The conservative states watched what happened in New York, saw the consequences and willingly made the same mistakes because of pressure from the trump administration. New York, Boston and NJ are now very much under control because they learned from their own mistakes.

This.

How did they not have a Plan B given everything has been changing so rapidly for months now and you can't rely on much.

Btw... that's nearly double the worst day the entire country of Canada ever had to date and that was months ago. Just for some perspective on how it's being managed in FL.

It's so damn hot do you maybe think everyone is mostyl staying in where A/C is a bit of a culprit? I've not heard it mentioned once, but honestly Florida... get it together.

Yeah, oopsie. I guess the 30k deaths in NY, 13k deaths in NJ, and 8k deaths in MA were just little mistakes.

Florida is just an abject failure despite having slightly over 3k deaths with triple the population of NJ, quadruple of MA, and about 3M more than NY as well as harboring those that fled the above states. It’s all that big bad Trump and his goons.

I’m not disputing that there was a spike, but number of cases doesn’t mean anything if the hospital system is doing fine. Number of cases also doesn’t mean anything if it is essentially being fought off by the infected person without major incident in the vast majority of those cases. It’s still important to protect people as much as possible, but you’d swear that there was some fool-proof plan to defeat this virus that conservatives just refuse to adopt. The truth is that partisan politics isn’t an immunization and the actual facts don’t support the position many here are taking for political reasons.

For starters... Do I need to post the date and hilariously bad interview where the Georgia governor figured out asymptomatic people could be a problem?

If you're tired of the partisan BS, why you being so obviously partisan lol.
