Re: Around The NBA: 2019-20 Season #2
It just goes to show you the difference between an aggressive front office and the former one we had.
Miami was one of the worst cap situations last year with a meh roster.
In one offseason they found a way to miraculously purge all those bad contracts (Whiteside,WInslow) and found a way to move Richardson for an upgrade in Jimmy.
Now there are rumors they are trying for Dipo and Giannis at the end of next season. So if they are serious, they will dangle BAM, with Nunn, Herro, Robinsona and cap space to outright sign one and trade for the other.
To tell you the truth, this isnt typical but rather a combination of striking gold essentially 5 times over in one offseason.
Bam being an allstar this season was totally out of left field.
Who saw Duncan Robinson coming?
Nunn was an undrafted rookie who could easily make all rookie 1st team.
Tyler Herro an excellent rookie who also could haev easily been all rookie 1st if he wasnt hurt so much.
And getting Jimmy looked like an impossible situation but happened.

The culture of the Heat is to win and to gamble and win big. Riley loves to swing for the fences and he will reset for a couple of seasons to gain assets(in his mind)and then strike again.

That is the one thing I give Riley credit for. He built up those original assets but they underachieved. Last year that team was going absolutely no where but obviously Riley knew his team enough to be confident in pulling the trigger.
The team is still in my opinion in fact overachieving but as we see Riley isnt done and looking for the ultimate asset instead of being happy he got overachieving assets.

Culture matters in the NBA(Granted, it matters in every team sport). Even when the Heat are lackluster, there is always a move to be made and players want to go there.
Riley has proven he will do whatever it takes to win, proven he can bring in guys that can be developed and he can show players championship level results.
More to the point, when players leave the Heat they often endorse Riley and his will to win.

Re: Around The NBA: 2019-20 Season #2
Avery Bradley opting out of the bubble playoffs..
That's a pretty big blow to the Lakers. Sure, he was only putting up 8.6 ppg, 2.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.9 steal sin 24 minuets... but on good efficiency, including from 3 (0.364), .537 TS% and a positive defensive +/-. And looking at his by team splits, it looks like his worst games were generally against bad teams (meaning less urgency) - Atlanta, Brooklyn, Detroit, Orlando. He also played poorly against Milwaukee (and played well against Golden State). Played much better as a a starter and when he was not banged up, trending up in February and March...
I heard that the Lakers were practicing privately together for much of the last couple of months, so still have to give them an edge, but this has to hurt. Then again, maybe that means more chances for playoff Rondo to appear. And KCP has statistically outplayed Bradley (but he generally hasn't started and has had his usual consistency issues, including trending down in February and March), so maybe this doesn't do so much.

the numbers suggest otherwise. it all seems to stem from destroying the bulls in the '09 playoffs (derrick's coming out party), when he averaged 19/9/12/2to/3s playing 45 minutes a game in a 7 game series. because other than that his playoff numbers are actually worse than his regular season numbers
career regular per 36: 12/5/10 50.0%ts
career playoff per 36: 13/6/9 48.5% ts
he was also a catalyst, doing everything except scoring for the bulls AGAINST boston, upsetting them the first 2 games in 2017 before getting injured and the Cs sweeping the next 4
so there's definitely such a thing as playoff rondo...if the bulls are in the building

Yeah because we didn't see him turn into a 11.5 8.5 and 10 guy in 2016 with the Bulls after averaging 7.8 5.1 and 6.7 in the regular season. Took a 2-0 series lead, he got hurt and then we lost the next 4 to lose in 6.

That would have been interesting. Derrick and Bosh then potentially add someone the next season. Hmm..

They would have still had cap space after signing Bosh. Just not max cap space. What would have been crazy was if they kept BG and got Bosh. Rose, BG, Deng, Bosh and Noah definitely beats the heat.

I'm not sure they would have used all of the cap space had they landed Bosh, probably would have made another move for another player via trade or FA the next season.

Well if they would have resigned BG on that 6/54 deal the previous year and signed Bosh that would have been all their cap space and they actually did use all their cap space that summer anyway.
