As a Bucks fan, this stings a bit if... the contract goes past this season. I think he's a player - and could end up like Wood.

No harm in bringing him in. Might be a scratch off lottery ticket.

He's mobile. Blocks shots. He has some offensive skills.

I watched about 25 OKC Blue last season.
Patton has talent.
Abdul Gaddy is a three point shooting Andre Miller.
Devon Hall has game.

Weaver had lots of competitive talent on that OKC Blue team.

Not a bad signing. Obviously Weaver knows him well, it makes me on board. He could be a decent 10-15 minute big backup. Probably higher upside than Thom Maker at this point. Didn’t cost anything so why not.

A bag of Doritos has a higher upside than Thon Maker.

He seems to have good court vision for a center. But he looks super awkward in the post.

At worst he ends up being Thon Maker and upside is another C. Wood hybrid. Not a bad developmental player as a quick sign on.

At his current rate of progression, I expect him to play 7 games next season.

We're paying him above minimum?

who knows if it will work out, but I like it. This is the type of signing we should be looking at for a rebuild. Young guy with potential. Athletic and skilled. We need to take a lot of fliers on guys like this for the next couple years.

I heard we're paying him more than the prorated minimum for remainder of this season. Pistons are obviously done playing, so it sounds like a $500k signing bonus to me. The deal includes a team friendly non-guaranteed second season (2020/21).

Pistons have the cap space to pull this gimmick again - would just need to open up a roster spot. So if Weaver identifies another youngster he wants to get on a cheap non-guaranteed deal into next season he could give them the same ROS "signing bonus".

Prorated above minimum, partial guaranteed next year. No real risk

Patton just turned 23. For some reason I thought he was way older. No real risk here with this type of deal.

23 year old
Top 20 pick in the 2017 Draft
Team friendly 2nd season
Athletic big man

What's not to like about this?

We've got roster spots available and these kind of moves are what we should be doing.

That said: we're not exactly known for developing young talent. Can Weaver change that? He's going to have to

To be fair to this regime HOPEFULLY lack of development is behind us with SVGs of the world.

I'm happy with Casey & team for what they have done with Svi, Brown and Wood and their upwards trajectory. Sekou is just raw as ever yet and Weaver is here just in time to really get him going.
